\n\tA last-minute addition to Contenders London to promote Apple Original Film\u2019s F1<\/a>, Irish actress Kerry Condon<\/a> rocked the house with her memories of shooting Joseph Kosinski<\/a>\u2018s racing drama, set in the macho world of Formula One. Playing technician Kate McKenna to Pitt\u2019s maverick driver Sonny Hayes, Condon offsets the male bias as a woman who can more than handle herself in a man\u2019s world, a challenge she was willing to embrace. \u201cI can change a tire, I\u2019m a great driver,\u201d she said. \u201cHonestly, though, physics and maths were my worst subjects in school. So when I was learning about it, I did have my limits with those aspects of it. It\u2019s very technical and it\u2019s not something I\u2019d be good at in real life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe part also required Condon to square up against Pitt and tell him a brutal home truth: \u201cSonny Hayes isn\u2019t a has-been, he\u2019s a never-was.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCondon laughed when reminded of the scene. \u201cThat was very early on in the shoot\u201d she recalled. \u201cWe\u2019d shot at Silverstone [race track], and it was a big high. Everyone went out, but I was like, \u2018I\u2019m not going out. I\u2019ve got that big scene with Brad on Tuesday. There\u2019s no way I\u2019m hitting the town.\u2019 So I laid low, because I knew I had that scene coming up, and it was a really big scene, and I wanted to prove why I got the job. The biggest thing for me in that scene was when I pick up the pint, I was like, \u2018Don\u2019t shake the pint! Don\u2019t shake the pint!\u2019 That would give away the fact at I was nervous. I was like, \u2018Just pick it up!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe shaky pint, however, proved not to be the problem. \u201cJoe said, the more takes we did, the meaner I got, which I was surprised by. I was like, \u201cI don\u2019t think I was that mean to him!\u2019 And so a lot of the cut that you see was the first take. The actor\u2019s strike started the next day, so a part of me was like, \u2018I could get recast if I don\u2019t do this good.\u2019 Stranger things have happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCondon also revealed that the film\u2019s main action scenes were filmed almost on the fly at real racing events around the world. \u201cI felt like we were a guest of Formula One, and we were a film crew infiltrating their actual job,\u201d she said. \u201cJoe did tell me when I got the job, \u2018Your theater background will help, because there\u2019s a live aspect to this. You couldn\u2019t be like, \u2018Can I go to my trailer? I just want to brush my teeth.\u2019 It was like, \u2018You\u2019ve got to be ready. There\u2019s nobody waiting for you.\u2019 I kind of loved the non-princessy vibe, because it was like, \u2018We can\u2019t be thinking about that.
