{"id":193087,"date":"2025-10-11T15:50:06","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T15:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/193087\/"},"modified":"2025-10-11T15:50:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T15:50:06","slug":"maro-itoje-reveals-owen-farrells-really-admirable-quality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/193087\/","title":{"rendered":"Maro Itoje reveals Owen Farrell&#8217;s &#8216;really admirable&#8217; quality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saracens second-row Maro Itoje has opened up on star playmaker Owen Farrell\u2019s return to the North London-based outfit and what he brings to the Premiership club.<\/p>\n<p>Farrell joined Top 14 club Racing 92 at the start of last season, but after just one campaign in France\u2019s top flight, the utility back returned to Saracens and has impressed since rejoining the Premiership outfit.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old has started at centre in both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/team\/saracens\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sarries<\/a>\u2018 league matches against Newcastle Red Bulls and Bristol Bears and delivered outstanding performances in both outings.<\/p>\n<p>The former England captain finished with a 12-point haul in Saracens\u2019 39-17 victory over Newcastle Red Bulls at Kingston Park before contributing 15 points in last weekend\u2019s 50-17 triumph over Bristol Bears at the StoneX Stadium.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/tag\/Maro-Itoje\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Itoje<\/a>, who is the current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/team\/england\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">England<\/a> skipper and who also skippered the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/tournament\/British-and-Irish-Lions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">British &amp; Irish Lions<\/a> on their recent tour of Australia, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/tag\/Owen-Farrell\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Farrell<\/a> were team-mates while on duty with the famous touring team and is delighted to have the experienced campaigner alongside him at club level again.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Him coming back is exciting\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, Owen coming back makes any team better,\u201d he told the <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/rugby-union\/2025\/10\/09\/maro-itoje-interview-owen-farrell-england-wedding-saracens\/\" target=\"_blank\">Telegraph<\/a>. \u201cSo, him coming back is exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Itoje was also asked about Farrell\u2019s possible return to Test action after last representing England at the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.<\/p>\n<p>Farrell stepped away from international rugby after the global showpiece citing a need to focus on his and his family\u2019s mental well-being but has said he is still available for England selection since returning to Sarries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I said, I think he makes any team better,\u201d added Itoje. \u201cThat\u2019s going to be for him and the others to decide in the direction but I think he\u2019s such a quality player.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/news\/andy-farrell-lays-bare-the-brutal-level-of-disgusting-abuse-owen-farrell-got-as-a-young-player\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Farrell lays bare the \u2018brutal\u2019 level of \u2018disgusting\u2019 abuse Owen Farrell got as a young player<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he came to the Lions, I automatically felt he was so willing and able to support me with his time, with his thoughts, about how we can move the team forward in a team-first sort of way, which I found really admirable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s just an impressive guy. I just wish the best for him. I want the best for English rugby.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a bit of a vested interest in that. So whatever that is, let it come to pass. I think the quality is still there for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Itoje revealed that the Lions tour is something which made a lasting impression on him.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I absolutely loved the tour\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had a great time; I absolutely loved the tour. I loved being a part of it, I loved being stressed, challenged in that way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only bad thing that happened on the tour was that we didn\u2019t win the third Test. Obviously, you want that to happen, but Australia [have] since gone on to show that they\u2019re not mugs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m beyond happy that we were able to get the job done. The bonds that we\u2019ve fostered with my team-mates and staff, it will live strongly and deeply in my heart for a very long time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoing that with those players, those teams, the coaches, it was just amazing.
