A major step forward in delivering North Lincolnshire\u2019s new simpler, smarter recycling service<\/a> has been approved – with 70,000 new burgundy bins set to be rolled out ahead of the 2026 launch. The new 240-litre recycling containers will support the introduction of a fully co-mingled recycling collection system – one bin for all recyclables – making it easier than ever for residents to recycle more and waste less. Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council<\/a>, said: \u201cThis is about delivering what matters \u2013 simpler services that make life easier for residents \u2013 and will help us drive up our recycling even higher. “We’ve an excellent record on recycling, and this investment builds on that success, ensuring every household is ready for the move to simpler, smarter recycling.\u201d The change is part of the simpler recycling legislation introduced by the previous government, which takes effect from April 2026, and will see every household across North Lincolnshire benefit from a more convenient, consistent recycling service. The cost of the new bins will be covered in full through funding already secured from Department for Environment, meaning there is no additional cost to local taxpayers. Cllr Neil Poole, deputy leader, said: “We\u2019re getting ahead of the game. By ordering these new bins now, we\u2019re making sure the system is ready to go in 2026. “Residents will have a single recycling bin that takes paper, card, cans, plastics and glass – no more sorting, just simple recycling that works for everyone.\u201d The new burgundy bins will replace existing boxes and bins currently used for recycling. Under the new approach, every household will benefit from:<\/p>\n A single, larger 240L recycling bin (burgundy) for all dry recyclable materials – plastic, metal, glass, card, and paper (removing two boxes)A weekly garden and food waste collection in one bin.A fortnightly general waste bin (grey\/green) for anything that can\u2019t be recycled.<\/p>\n If you don’t want to receive a bigger burgundy bin you can opt out of the upgrade and keep your old one by filling out a form on the council website. Cllr Waltham added: \u201cWe will be upgrading our brown bin collection to weekly – and keep this free. We are keeping our promise to not charge for green waste collections.\u201d The new bins will be delivered to residents in the new year ahead of the new system going live in April 2026.<\/p>\n
