The total dietary fiber intake should be 25 to 30 grams a day from food, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ucsfhealth.org\/education\/increasing-fiber-intake\">UCSF Health<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think most people associate fiber solely with how it helps your gut or prevents constipation,&#8221; Amanda Beaver, a wellness dietitian at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonmethodist.org\/blog\/articles\/2022\/sep\/7-benefits-of-fiber-that-should-convince-you-to-eat-enough-of-it\/\">Houston Methodist<\/a>, said. &#8220;It does play important roles in your GI health, but the benefits of fiber extend well beyond that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-1044474866.jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Pears fight cancer and heart disease, with anti-inflammatory benefits\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE inline-gallery-btn\"\/><\/p>\n<p>open image in gallery<\/p>\n<p>Pears fight cancer and heart disease, with anti-inflammatory benefits (Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Fiber helps make digestion easier, supports a healthy gut, regulates blood sugar, balances cholesterol levels and keeps you feeling fuller longer.<\/p>\n<p>The carbohydrate can also reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and colorectal cancer, according to Beaver.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of Americans, so the cardiovascular benefits of fiber are one of the most important,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Just one medium-sized pear can give you these benefits and is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usapears.org\/articles\/everything-there-is-to-know-about-pear-nutrition\/\">only 100 calories<\/a>, although make sure not to peel it.<\/p>\n<p>The red, yellow or green skins contain the majority of the fiber found in a pear, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usapears.org\/fiber\/\">USA Pears<\/a>. Most of the antioxidants are found in the skin, as well. Antioxidants have been shown to fight harmful inflammation that can lead to cancer and heart disease. <\/p>\n<p>But whether you eat a whole pear or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/food-and-drink\/recipes\/conference-pears-with-blue-monday-cheese-walnuts-and-honey-1202085.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chop one up to mix in a salad<\/a>, pears have multiple critical vitamins and essential minerals. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-186568013.jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Just one pear is enough to get more fiber in your diet.
