He has a plan.<\/p>\n<p>The two meet on December 6 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I win, I\u2019ll be in line for the WBC champion, Subriel Matias,\u201d Roach said during their recent press conference. <\/p>\n<p>Of course, Cruz will have something to say about that. The Mexican, who holds the WBC interim 140-pound strap, is a handful for any opponent.<\/p>\n<p>As for Matias, the Puerto Rican knocked off <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/fighters\/alberto-puello-3194863\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alberto Puello<\/a> on July 12 in New York <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/news\/subrial-matias-beats-alberto-puello-result-new-york-louis-armstrong-stadium\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to become a two-time 140-pound champion.<\/a> <br \/>But while being called out by rivals, <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/news\/subriel-matias-dalton-smith-winner-must-fight-alberto-puello-says-mauricio-sulaiman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he\u2019ll first have to deal with mandatory contender Dalton Smith<\/a>. They will meet on January 10 at a yet-to-be-determined site in New York. <br \/>For Roach, beating Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) and Matias (23-2, 22 KOs) would lift his status and spirits significantly. The 30-year-old defied the odds by fighting <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/fighters\/gervonta-davis-119\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gervonta Davis<\/a> to a <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/news\/gervonta-davis-escapes-with-majority-draw-against-lamont-roach-after-taking-knee-that-didn-t-count-as-a-knockdown-in-the-9th-round\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">controversial majority draw <\/a>on March 1. <br \/>Many, including Roach, were under the assumption that they would rematch. But, despite Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) exercising his rematch clause, he opted against it and will instead face <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/fighters\/jake-paul-8584569\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jake Paul<\/a> in an exhibition November 14. <\/p>\n<p>Although he still wants that rematch, Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) isn\u2019t going to beg for it.
