Beyond The Grid<\/a> podcast, Vowles took a moment to reflect on Albon\u2019s progress and the significant contribution he is making at Williams both on and off the track.<\/p>\n\u201cI can tell you from the outset he was very quick, but he needed the right forum where the world isn\u2019t questioning his team mates or what\u2019s going on,\u201d said Vowles of Albon\u2019s Williams journey. \u201cThere\u2019s no questioning now. Carlos is absolutely the reference you need.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlex, this year, every time there has been a result [available], he\u2019s gone and picked it up. Simple as that. His pace has been outstanding. I think if there\u2019s any doubts, it should be gone by now in people\u2019s minds.\u201d<\/p>\n
He continued: \u201cI would say the biggest difference I\u2019ve noticed with Alex is a step up in his confidence and belief. That\u2019s the main thing \u2013 in the team and in himself at the same time.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery human being goes through cycles where they\u2019re more or less confident in themselves and the car and what goes around. You cannot waver Alex one bit this year. Not for a second can you even just push him. He is absolutely confident in what he is doing and what the car is doing around that.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat doesn\u2019t mean we\u2019re perfect on the car, not by any stretch of the imagination, but his driving force is one of, \u2018Fix this, fix this, and I will go faster\u2019, and it\u2019s directing the team in the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n
Vowles also noted Albon\u2019s willingness to help Sainz during his Williams adaptation as the Grove-based squad continue their push to climb up the F1 order and ultimately challenge for race wins and world titles again.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have some peculiarities in this car on just how to approach certain corners, but he\u2019s really, really good at vocalising that, and helping Carlos as well \u2013 he\u2019s not keeping it for himself,\u201d added Vowles.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s immediately straight out there, \u2018Look at this, this is what I\u2019m doing here\u2019, and then helping the engineers drive the direction of travel.
