An 11-year-old boy is ‘fighting like a champion’ in intensive care a week after he was seriously injured in a horror tram crash in south Manchester.<\/p>\n

Travis Ashe was left with life-changing injuries after he was struck by the Metrolink<\/a> tram at the Crossacres stop on Brownley Road in Wythenshawe<\/a> at around 3.40pm last Tuesday (October 7).<\/p>\n

A huge emergency services presence attended the collision, taping off the tram stop and the road in both directions overnight while investigations took place. Travis was rushed to hospital from the scene.<\/p>\n

In an update by his parents Simon and Claire, they said the youngster remained in the Intensive Care Unit in an induced coma and was ‘fighting like a champion’ after already undergoing multiple surgeries for his injuries.<\/p>\n

“Travis is in the same condition, in the ICU fighting like a champion,” they said on Sunday (October 12). “We\u2019ve had another very long day yesterday but we did get a bit of rest overnight and left social media for the day, the outpouring of love Travis and ourselves have received yesterday and overnight and today is just unbelievable and overwhelming.<\/p>\n

“For every single message, we are slowly but surely when we can reading each message and we will at some point reach back out to thank you all.”<\/p>\n

An air ambulance, as well as paramedics, advanced clinicians, police and fire crews descended on the incident last Tuesday as the area was sealed off.<\/p>\n

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), which runs the tram network across the region, said it was supporting the police along with the Office of Rail and Road and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch who are looking into what happened.<\/p>\n

Following the incident, the Cheshire North West Schoolboy Scramble Club are raising vital funds for the family to support them during their stay with Travis in hospital. The 11-year-old is a keen off-road biker, with motocross a ‘massive part of Travis and his families life’.<\/p>\n

Helen Reid, a friend of the family told the Manchester Evening News there is a ‘long road ahead’ due to the nature of Travis’s injuries, with the donations being raised to ease the burden for his loved ones during his recovery.<\/p>\n

“I’m sure the motocross community will help support them on this very long journey they have ahead of them,” an update read. “We can only imagine how harrowing this is for everyone and family have said they are feeling overwhelmed. Travis is their priority right now.<\/p>\n

“When the family are ready they will let us know what they need and we will share this with Travis\u2019 motocross family and we know you won\u2019t let him down. This is the start of a very long journey, let\u2019s give them space whilst they figure out what\u2019s next. Then we can do what we do best, pull together for one of our own.”<\/p>\n

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with witnesses now urged to come forward by Greater Manchester Police<\/a>. This includes anyone with footage, including dashcam or mobile phone footage.<\/p>\n
