Halo<\/a> will make its PS5 debut with a massively modernised remake of the original Xbox game, Combat Evolved<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s according to the Halo Leaks<\/a> account on X<\/a> (or Twitter<\/a>), which has accurately outed information about the franchise in the past.<\/p>\n

Renamed developer Halo Studios has promised updates on the future of the franchise at the Halo World Championship later this month, where it\u2019s expected to show what it\u2019s been working on.<\/p>\n

Rumours of a Combat Evolved remake have been swirling for quite some time, with the PS5 expected to be a target platform now Microsoft has gone multiformat.<\/p>\n

Halo Leaks says Sony\u2019s platform is planned for the remake, but is unsure if this will be disclosed during the aforementioned event.<\/p>\n

I can definitely confirm the Halo CE Remake will have sprint & “modern gameplay mechanics”.<\/p>\n

I’m of the belief it’s gameplay will be similar to the new Halo Multiplayer game, which I also believe is Halo 7’s MP.<\/p>\n

In addition, the snoop says the remake will have \u201cmodern gameplay mechanics\u201d, such as sprint \u2013 a source of division among hardcore Halo fans.<\/p>\n

The original Halo: Combat Evolved popularised first-person shooters on consoles when it released in 2001, but a lot has changed in the decades since its introduction. Sprinting, sliding, and even the ability to \u201caim down sights\u201d have become common mechanics.<\/p>\n

Halo Leaks says this will be a \u201cfull remake similar to the Resident Evil<\/a> remakes\u201d, presumably like Resident Evil 2<\/a> which is a completely different game on modern hardware compared to its PS1 original.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s going to be interesting to see just how die-hards respond to these alterations, assuming this rumour is accurate.<\/p>\n

Clearly Halo Studios is aiming to appeal to a new audience, but there\u2019s a possibility it could alienate existing fans in the process.<\/p>\n

Of course, Combat Evolved has already been remade once before: Anniversary Edition<\/a> launched on Xbox 360 all the way back in 2011 to celebrate the series\u2019 10th anniversary, and was later bundled up in the Master Chief Collection<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Authentic remasters do already exist, then, and it sounds like Halo Studios is hoping to really revamp the experience with this version.<\/p>\n

Assuming it does release on PS5, it\u2019ll be a watershed moment.<\/p>\n

Microsoft has already ported both Forza Horizon 5<\/a> and Gears of War Reloaded<\/a> to PlayStation, but Halo is the definitive Xbox franchise. It\u2019s going to be fascinating to see how Sony stalwarts react to its arrival.<\/p>\n
