{"id":201427,"date":"2025-10-15T08:55:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T08:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/201427\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T08:55:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T08:55:08","slug":"aston-martin-denies-fernando-alonso-retirement-talks-for-f1-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/201427\/","title":{"rendered":"Aston Martin denies Fernando Alonso retirement talks for F1 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell says he\u2019s heard nothing from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/fernando-alonso\/489\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Fernando Alonso<\/a> regarding a potential plan to retire from Formula 1 at the end of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>Alonso is a two-time world champion and the most experienced F1 driver in history with 419 grand prix starts, but has been on a 218-round winless streak.<\/p>\n<p>The 44-year-old has been thinking about his future and, against all expectations, told Spanish newspaper AS that a poor Aston Martin car in 2026 would spur him to keep going even longer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know it\u2019s my last chance,\u201d Alonso said about F1\u2019s new technical era next year, with revamped chassis and engine regulations. \u201cIf the car is weak, I might go one more year just to end on a positive note. If the car is strong, 2026 will probably be my last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1760518508_510_fernando-alonso-aston-martin-r.jpg\" alt=\"Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin Racing\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin Racing<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Glenn Dunbar \/ LAT Images via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Cowell has however clarified to Motorsport.com that no such talks have taken place yet with the Spanish veteran within the Aston Martin squad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve not had any conversations with him about that,\u201d Cowell said. \u201cHis conversations with me over the past year have been all focused on 2026. Lance [Stroll] is exactly the same, which results in a painful 2025 season, but we are putting all our effort and focus on 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Read Also:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess Fernando is thinking towards the back end of 2026 and what to do, but we&#8217;re just pushing hard to make sure that we&#8217;re in the best possible place for 2026, 2027 and beyond. Fernando has shown that he&#8217;s a phenomenal competitor. Age doesn&#8217;t seem to be an issue for him.
