Horse of the Year set for broodmare career but Arc hero races on \u2013 plus world #1 Ka Ying Rising \u2018ready to rumble\u2019 in Everest \u2026 all this and more in our weekly digest\u00a0of recent international racing news<\/p>\n

Thorpedo Anna retirement announced<\/p>\n

\"ThorpedoUSA: Thorpedo Anna, the reigning Horse of the Year, has been retired to the paddocks as a broodmare at John Sikura’s Hill \u2019n\u2019 Dale Farms at Xalapa near Paris, Kentucky.<\/p>\n

Trainer Kenny McPeek announced the news on Wednesday [Oct 15]. \u201cFor everybody out there that’s worried about her, you can rest at ease \u2013 she’s fine,\u201d he said. \u201cShe has been examined by several veterinarians. Dr. (Larry) Bramlage of Rood and Riddle found some very mild bone bruising, which is consistent with horses in work at her level, and she could go back to training in 90 days, but we have opted to retire her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thorpedo Anna was 12 of her 16 career starts, among them seven G1 events including last year\u2019s Kentucky Oaks and Breeders\u2019 Cup Distaff. A 20 per cent share will be offered at the Keeneland Championship Sale on Oct 29 at Del Mar. More here<\/a><\/p>\n

Arc hero Daryz to stay in training<\/p>\n

\"Daryz:France: Prix de l\u2019Arc de Triomphe winner Daryz will stay in training next year as a four-year-old after his thrilling victory in Europe\u2019s richest race.<\/p>\n

\u201cDaryz has taken his race very well and is in good form following his top-class performance,\u201d said Nemone Routh, racing manager of the Aga Khan Studs in France.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a beautiful horse who resembles his sire [Sea The Stars] and has a great constitution. He progressed throughout the season and we are very much looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish next year.\u201d More here<\/a><\/p>\n

Pacemaker for Ombudsman in Champions Day clash<\/p>\n

\"Ombudsman:GB: Connections of Juddmonte International winner Ombudsman will employ a pacemaker in the Qipco Champion Stakes, the highlight of a Champions Day card featuring no fewer than five G1 events at Ascot on Saturday [Oct 18].<\/p>\n

Devil\u2019s Advocate, a stablemate of the big-race favourite at John & Thady Gosden\u2019s Newmarket yard, has been supplemented to the \u00a31.3m contest at a cost of \u00a375,000. French-trained First Look has also been added to a spectacular clash involving King George winner Calandagan plus Economics and Delacroix, the last two winners of the Irish Champion Stakes. Ka Ying Rising \u2018ready to rumble\u2019 in Everest<\/p>\n

\"MorningAustralia: World #1 racehorse Ka Ying Rising will break from gate seven in a 12-runner field for the Everest, the world\u2019s richest turf race at Randwick in Sydney on Saturday [Oct 18] when the Hong Kong superstar will bid for his 14th successive victory.<\/p>\n

Trainer David Hayes was more than satisfied with the draw. \u201cPerfect \u2013 jump fast and get a good position \u2013 that\u2019s a good barrier,\u201d said the trainer. More here<\/a><\/p>\n

Hayes was also delighted with Ka Ying Rising\u2019s final gallop on Monday [Oct 13] ahead of the A$20m ($13m\/\u00a39.72m) event. \u201cI think he\u2019s ready to rumble,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m very confident we have him at his best and it will take a good horse to beat him on Saturday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hayes was speaking in the wake of what he labelled \u201cfake news\u201d after a social media account was reportedly hacked and suggested the gelding had fitness and eating issues and might even be scratched. More here<\/a><\/p>\n

Saudi Derby added to Kentucky Derby points series<\/p>\n

\"SubsequentUSA: The Saudi Derby, set to be held in Riyadh on Feb 14, features among three new races to be added to the ranks of Kentucky Derby points races.<\/p>\n

The UAE 2,000 Guineas and the Dubai Road to the Kentucky Derby Stakes (formerly the Al Bastakiya)\u00a0will also now be part of the European\/Middle East Road to the Kentucky Derby series, offering qualifying points towards the first Saturday in May.<\/p>\n
