Max Verstappen<\/a> heads to Austin this weekend with his sights set firmly on the two McLaren<\/a> drivers ahead of him, Lando Norris<\/a> and Oscar Piastri<\/a>. The Dutchman may downplay his title chances, but many in the paddock \u2014 including former F1 driver Jolyon Palmer<\/a> \u2014 believe he remains a serious threat.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Red Bull reborn\u00a0<\/p>\n

For much of the season, Verstappen\u2019s hopes of a fifth world title seemed to have faded. The Red Bull struggled for pace, and McLaren appeared unstoppable. But since the summer break, the balance of power has shifted. Verstappen has taken two victories and finished runner-up in the other two races, while McLaren\u2019s drivers have suffered from reliability issues and costly mistakes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking on the F1 Nation Podcast, Palmer said he\u2019s convinced Verstappen will continue to pressure the McLarens. \u201cI think Max will remain a threat,\u201d he said. \u201cJust look at how Red Bull has improved over the last few races. Don\u2019t forget Silverstone either \u2014 it\u2019s quite similar in character to Austin. There are more slow corners in Austin, but Max was on pole at Silverstone with the trimmed-out Red Bull.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The ruthless edge\u00a0<\/p>\n

Palmer praised both Verstappen\u2019s form and Red Bull\u2019s development curve, warning that neither should be underestimated. \u201cWe have to assume that Max and Red Bull will be right up there in the coming races,\u201d he explained. \u201cBecause it\u2019s Max \u2014 you can never rule him out. He knows how to link the weekends together. His qualifying laps are relentless. The margins are tiny, yet he finds them every single time. That\u2019s what makes him so ruthless.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Can he really win the title?\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite Verstappen\u2019s resurgence, Palmer remains cautious about the bigger picture. \u201cIt\u2019s still hard to imagine him actually pulling it off,\u201d he admitted. \u201cIf something goes wrong for Max in even one of the six remaining races, it\u2019s over. And I just can\u2019t see him dominating every single weekend from here.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

A quiet threat\u00a0<\/p>\n

Even so, Palmer and many others agree that Verstappen\u2019s relentless precision makes him impossible to dismiss. Red Bull may have started the season on the back foot, but with the Dutchman in this kind of form, McLaren\u2019s lead no longer feels safe. In a season that has<\/p>\n

already defied expectations, Verstappen\u2019s quiet, methodical comeback might yet become the story of the year.<\/p>\n
