{"id":205604,"date":"2025-10-17T03:04:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T03:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/205604\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T03:04:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T03:04:11","slug":"shooz-fit-and-firing-ahead-of-oaks-showdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/205604\/","title":{"rendered":"Shooz fit and firing ahead of Oaks showdown"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Trainer Jess Tubbs believes a more mature and stronger Golden Shooz is well placed to stay the distance in tomorrow night\u2019s Group 1 Pryde\u2019s EasiFeed Victoria Oaks Final.<\/p>\n<p>The daughter of Captain Crunch peeled out from behind the leader Let Her Roll down the home straight in winning her heat last weekend in a mile rate of 1:56.7, the quickest of the two Oaks qualifiers.<\/p>\n<p>Tubbs acknowledged the 2760m journey of the heat \u2013 and the final \u2013 had been unchartered territory for the three-year-old fillies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey hadn\u2019t had any experience over the trip, and I was rapt with the way Golden Shooz was strong through the line after getting a little bit keen at times during the race,\u201d Tubbs said.<\/p>\n<p>Tubbs believes her filly is now seasoned enough to back up again over the staying distance a week later after pulling up well from her heat win.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrots.com.au\/event\/victoria-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"2026 Victoria Cup Leaderboard Trots\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img data-tgpli-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2026-Victoria-Cup-Leaderboard-Trots.png\" alt=\"\" data-tgpli-  width=\"728\" height=\"90\" style=\"display: inline-block;\" data-tgpli-inited=\"\" data-tgpli-image-inited=\"\" id=\"tgpli-68f1b2283475d\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe used to tie up as a younger horse and hasn\u2019t always found the line like she did in the heat, but with maturity she has handled the work a lot better this season and has a better understanding of racing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow she has to do it again over the 2760 metres a week later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Golden Shooz is raced by first-time Larajay Farm clients Ian and Kath Sutherland, who bred the filly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIan and Kath came out to have a look at the farm one day and then sent us this filly,\u201d she said. \u201cThey have been very supportive to me after losing Greg (Sugars).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tubbs\u2019 husband and champion reinsman Greg Sugars passed unexpectedly earlier this year in a devastating loss to the family and entire harness racing industry.<\/p>\n<p>Golden Shooz has to contend with a second row draw tomorrow night, but Tubbs has the added benefit of the state\u2019s leading driver, James Herbertson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve had a chat with \u2018Herbie\u2019 and we\u2019ll have more discussions towards the end of the week,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut you have a few more options up your sleeve in a long race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Golden Shooz is quoted as a $6.50 chance behind Queensland Oaks winner Soho Americano ($2.30 favourite), who finished second in her heat behind Beach Diamond ($5.50) after facing the breeze for the final lap of the race.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Trainer Jess Tubbs believes a more mature and stronger Golden Shooz is well placed to stay the distance&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":205605,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[40],"tags":[3004,101,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-205604","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-racing","tag-racing","tag-sports","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/205604","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=205604"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/205604\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/205605"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=205604"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=205604"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=205604"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
