I first came across Pez fan George from San Diego way back in 2012 when I created the Readers\u2019 Rigs column and I have to say \u2013 his Fondriest 4 speed really got people talking. At a time when companies are adding gears and we\u2019ve gone from 9 speed, to 10, to 11 and more, George went the other way completely with his Fondriest<\/a>. He\u2019s since featured on PEZ with an equally unique Bianchi<\/a> plus a museum retro stunner<\/a> and now he\u2019s back again \u2013 this time with a different Italian brand, Guerciotti.<\/p>\n

Bike: Guerciotti Eureka SHM50 2017. They still make them in Milano Italy, \u2018Devo amarlo\u2019!
Made from a mix of high-modulus carbon fibers 990g (claimed frame weight)
Groupset: Sram red Double-TAP\/FSA\/Modified rear Campy derail\/Shimano\/3T\/ITM,etc.
Wheels: Fulcrum Racing Zero C17
Pedals: Look Keo Max 2 carbon
Saddle: Asia 100% carbon knock-off (sub100g)
Other: TRP R970-SL magnesium (Fnt), Shimano Dura Ace direct mount (Rear)
Weight: 13.6lbs (6.1kg) and with me (65.6kgs)<\/p>\n

When did you buy it?
I bought the frame in April 2025 (NOS Ebay find) and then built it up from there.<\/p>\n

What components are you running?
Sram Red shifters with Modified Campy Record rear, 3T\/ITM cockpit, FSA cranks.<\/p>\n

Did you ever think to just leave the gears as standard?
Been running straight blocks since 1980 (53-39), (12-17 six speed) \u2018intimidation gearing\u2019, I don\u2019t get screwed with when they notice. Only beaten once in a hill sprint back in 1984, but that\u2019s another story.<\/p>\n

How many miles do you do a year?
8,000 give or take<\/p>\n

What do you love about this bike?
Just has the geometry that I like. I don\u2019t like where the new bikes have been going. I don\u2019t need a sloping top tube, don\u2019t need drop seat stays, don\u2019t need disc brakes, don\u2019t need through axle, don\u2019t need glasses bigger then my head, and most of all, don\u2019t need the rear cassette to be the same size as the disc brake! \u201cChe Cazzo\u201d (WTF)<\/p>\n

Favorite riding area?
Climbs of San Diego then stopping at a cafe for a \u2018caffe corretto\u2019.<\/p>\n

Favorite riding experience on your bike?
Continuing to beat up the young on climbs. I still ride as if there\u2019s a race on Sunday.<\/p>\n
