Members of the public have reacted with outrage after Rebekah Campbell’s killer, Michael Ormandy, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 24 years. The 34-year-old was convicted of murdering Ms Campbell, 32, after she was knifed 27 times inside her own flat<\/a> at Knowsley<\/a> Heights in Huyton<\/a> in April this year.<\/p>\n Ormandy claimed to have acted in self-defence during the incident despite suffering only a single cut to his hand during the altercation, requiring only minor treatment in hospital as a result.<\/a><\/p>\n Rebekah was meanwhile left covered in blood as she collapsed outside the block of flats, having suffered 18 stab wounds and been slashed a further nine times with a knife. She was said to have pleaded \u201cget out, go away Mick\u201d as he burst into her home unannounced in a bulletproof vest and brutally attacked her, before asking police officers who rushed to the scene \u201cam I gonna die?\u201d as they fought in vain to save her.<\/p>\n Only three days earlier, “jealous and possessive” Ormandy had left his partner with a black eye after punching her during a night out in Liverpool city centre<\/a>. The self-confessed drug dealer<\/a> then had sex with another woman at a hotel and told her he was \u201cgoing to Liverpool to sort something out\u201d a matter of hours before the fatal stabbing.<\/p>\n In the aftermath, the former boxer and cage fighter, who bears a tattoo of the words \u201cThe Hitman\u201d across the front of his neck<\/a>, called the police in the early hours and claimed to have a \u201csuicide vest\u201d while threatening to \u201cblow everyone up\u201d. Following his arrest, he went on to remark his victim \u201cmust have stabbed herself\u201d.<\/p>\n Ormandy was brought back before Liverpool Crown Court<\/a> this morning, Thursday, for his sentencing. Having smiled, clapped and shouted “come on, cloud nine, I know where yous all live you daft c***s”<\/a> in response to cheers from his victim’s family as he was convicted, he nodded as he was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 24 years behind bars today.<\/p>\n The sentence has been widely condemned by members of the public, with many calling it “a joke” and “an insult” to Rebekah\u2019s memory.<\/p>\n Commenting on Facebook<\/a>, Julie Dale, mum of Ashley Dale, who was shot dead in her own home in Old Swan by James Witham on August 21, 2022<\/a>, commented: “Life? Laughable. 24 years for taking a beautiful young woman away from her family. Makes me sick. May he rot in hell.”<\/p>\n Liane Brady wrote: \u201cThis man is the definition of a scumbag. He should have got a whole life term. He\u2019s a danger to women.”<\/p>\n Sarah M Wissett wrote: “Should be a whole life sentence where he’s never let out. 24 years is never long enough to come out and do it to his next victim.”<\/p>\n Kie Wright said: “Crazy sentence for taking the life of a young beautiful woman. People been getting more in Liverpool for Encro phones that\u2019s wild.”<\/p>\n John Gallagher added: “The lack of remorse from this horrific piece of garbage is absolutely sickening. There’s hopefully fellas in clink who don’t take kindly to men who commit and are in there for heinous acts of violence against women. 24 years is a joke. Still only in his 50s when he can possibly be released.”<\/p>\n Tommy Kelly wrote: “40 full years would have been more appropriate.”<\/p>\n Sheila Mo Frank said: “I would have thought it would be longer than that.”<\/p>\n Kirsty Milly said: “Evil scumbag.”Danny Geraghty-Whitehead said: “Not long enough, should have joined the 30 club.”Dave McCarthy said: “24 years?
