In a day and age when some fighters are looking to get in, get paid and get out, David Benavidez<\/a> is the exact opposite.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got another 15 years left,\u201d Benavidez told Ring Champs with Ak & Barak on their YouTube channel. \u201cI fight two times a year, why would I not wanna do that for the next 15 years? If I take care of my body well enough, two fights a year ain\u2019t [expletive].\u201d<\/p>\n

At the age of 28, the light heavyweight division\u2019s WBC champion believes he has a long way to go. But for now, he wants to focus on what he has in front of him.<\/p>\n

Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) is set to defend his strap against Anthony Yarde<\/a> (27-3, 24 KOs) on November 22 in the main event of \u201cThe Ring IV: Night of the Champions\u201d card at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia<\/a>. As long as everything goes according to plan, Benavidez intends to fight some of the top names in the light heavyweight division as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

His reasoning is simple: while 15 years is relatively a long time, he doesn\u2019t want to spend the entirety of it at 175 pounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanna be at light heavyweight for maybe another five years,\u201d Benavidez continued. \u201cThen cruiserweight for another five years, then maybe we can get to heavyweight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Benavidez is focused on the here and now, but from time to time he takes a peek at the cruiserweight landscape<\/a>. On multiple occasions, he has called out the likes of WBA and WBO champ Gilberto \u201cZurdo\u201d Ramirez<\/a>. He\u2019s also flirted with the idea of facing Jai Opetaia<\/a>, who owns The Ring and IBF belts.<\/p>\n

As for the thought of fighting even larger men in the heavyweight division, Benavidez doesn\u2019t believe it\u2019s impossible. However, what some may have a hard time believing is his timeline.<\/p>\n

If it holds true, he\u2019ll be fighting well into his 40s. While that sounds like a near-impossible idea to wrap their minds around, Benavidez is convinced that his current schedule would allow him to do it with ease.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have enough time to recover, you have enough time for yourself, you have enough time for your family, and you have enough time to train hard,\u201d Benavidez continued. \u201cThis is something I love to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
