{"id":207730,"date":"2025-10-18T01:02:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T01:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/207730\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T01:02:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T01:02:08","slug":"fuming-open-goal-pundit-is-sick-of-seeing-celtic-star-blaming-everybody-but-himself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/207730\/","title":{"rendered":"Fuming Open Goal pundit is &#8216;sick of seeing&#8217; Celtic star &#8216;blaming everybody&#8217; but himself"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Open Goal pundit and former Celtic winger Paul Slane has let rip at Kasper Schmeichel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/match\/celtic-hero-bewildered-by-five-big-kasper-schmeichel-mistakes-in-braga-defeat\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Schmeichel hasn\u2019t been in great form for Celtic<\/a> of late, performing poorly against both Braga and Motherwell before the international break.<\/p>\n<p>Despite keeping seven clean sheets for the Hoops, the veteran Denmark international has made a number of costly mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>His biggest error came in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/match\/celtic-player-ratings-vs-braga-as-4-10-has-a-stinker-while-8-10-the-only-positive-on-dire-night\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2-0 defeat to Braga<\/a> when he flapped at a long-range effort that should have been saved comfortably.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/kasper-schmeichel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Schmeichel\u2019s<\/a> distribution has also been questioned by fans, giving the ball away multiple times in the first-half against the Portuguese outfit.<\/p>\n<p>And his form has sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/paul-slane\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Slane<\/a> over the edge.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2230425266-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Kasper Schmeichel of Celtic shouts during the UEFA Champions League Play-offs Round First Leg match between Celtic and Kairat Almaty at Celtic Park\" class=\"wp-image-309206\" \/>Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt \u2013 AMA\/Getty ImagesPaul Slane wants to see Celtic\u2019s Schmeichel dropped<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the latest Open Goal podcast, Slane said he would like to see Brendan Rodgers drop Schmeichel against Dundee on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Viljami Sinisalo is the second choice goalkeeper and has never really put a foot wrong when playing for Celtic, albeit having limited opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Slane: \u201cI think they need to change it up slightly, I do. I think Schmeichel needs to come out.<\/p>\n<p>Dalziel: \u201cSchmeichel?!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Slane: \u201cHis distribution has been awful and he\u2019s constantly blaming everybody else. I\u2019m sick of seeing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Would Brendan Rodgers drop Schmeichel at all?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unlikely that, despite Slane\u2019s frustrations and how some fans feel about Schmeichel, the ex-Leicester City stopper will be dropped on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Schmeichel will be given this game to redeem himself, which is likely given how poor Dundee have been so far this season.<\/p>\n<p>A clean sheet and better distribution will give him confidence, but there\u2019s no doubt he needs to improve his form.<\/p>\n<p>Another unconvincing display puts pressure on Rodgers to make a tough call and drop the most experienced player in the squad.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Open Goal pundit and former Celtic winger Paul Slane has let rip at Kasper Schmeichel.
