{"id":208002,"date":"2025-10-18T03:59:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T03:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/208002\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T03:59:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T03:59:09","slug":"the-cota-trick-that-lando-norris-learned-in-f1-us-gp-sprint-qualifying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/208002\/","title":{"rendered":"The COTA &#8216;trick&#8217; that Lando Norris learned in F1 US GP Sprint qualifying"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lando Norris explained the \u201ctrick\u201d that will result in a good lap around the Circuit of the Americas after taking second on the grid for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/series\/single-seater\/formula-1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula 1<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/racing\/2025\/united-states\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">United States Grand Prix<\/a> Sprint Race.<\/p>\n<p>The Brit looked set to take pole but was bumped down by Max Verstappen in the final seconds of the session, leaving him to line-up alongside the Dutchman, with title rival and team-mate Oscar Piastri in third.<\/p>\n<p>Norris, who took to the track off the back of admitting he suffered \u201crepercussions\u201d for his role in the controversial incident with Piastri in Singapore two weeks ago, was unable to quite do enough to nullify the challenge from the Red Bull man.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after qualifying, Norris confessed that he was unable to do enough to secure pole, he was pleased with the overall result and outcome. <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\">\u201cWasn\u2019t good enough to be on pole, but it\u2019s not a surprise for us to be a bit slower than the Red Bull,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\">\u201cSo still pretty happy. A couple of things here and there that I could have improved on, I caught a few of the bumps a little wrong, let\u2019s say. <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\">\u201cThat is just the difficulty of this track. Otherwise, all happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Lando-Norris-US-GP-1024x576.webp.webp\" alt=\"Lando Norris said there is a &quot;trick&quot; to nailing the perfect lap at COTA\" class=\"wp-image-226414\"  \/>Lando Norris said there is a \u201ctrick\u201d to nailing the perfect lap at COTA<\/p>\n<p>Norris \u2018would have loved to have been a little quicker\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The characteristics of COTA means for a strong set-up on raceday, with an extreme amount of bumps providing a sterner aspect to an already stern challenge.<\/p>\n<p>For Norris, it is a case of being content with the idea of not knowing exactly how the car will handle through the particularly bumpy parts at the start of the lap.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\">\u201cI am sure if you ask most people if they are confident through sector one, I am sure they will say no,\u201d he said. \u201cI am happy with not being very comfortable. I think that is kind of the trick.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\">\u201cOtherwise, it\u2019s ok. The laps are pretty good, I found good steps of time throughout.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\">\u201cIt is just easy to catch a bump at the wrong angle or a bit too much throttle here and there over the bumps.
