{"id":208309,"date":"2025-10-18T07:12:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T07:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/208309\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T07:12:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T07:12:07","slug":"orionid-meteor-shower-peaks-next-week-when-and-where-to-see-it-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/208309\/","title":{"rendered":"Orionid meteor shower peaks next week: When and where to see it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The radiant is the point in the sky from which the meteors appear to originate, and for the Orionids this is the constellation of Orion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Orion rises in the east after midnight, just to the north of its red-tinged star Betelgeuse. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/skills\/orion-constellation-best-targets-observe\" class=\"ssrcss-16fdtb5-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">To track down Orion, external<\/a>, look out for a line of three bright stars, close together, known as Orion&#8217;s Belt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The quality of the display is measured by how many meteors are visible every hour &#8211; known as the zenithal hourly rate. There could be around 15 meteors an hour during the peak of the Orionids around the 22 October travelling at speeds of 148,000mph (238,000km\/h).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">For the best viewing conditions, find a dark spot, away from city lights after midnight with an unobstructed wide, open sky. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Let your eyes adjust to the dark and look towards the constellation of Orion.
