This was the moment a police officer pointed a Taser at a man who was running along the road after a crash. Merseyside Police were called to West Derby<\/a> Road in Tuebrook on Wednesday, October 15 at around 10.35am.<\/a><\/p>\n

It followed a report that a man was driving a red Kia car and was speeding in excess of 30mph along the road. Officers carried out a tactical stop and detained a man at the junction of West Derby Road and Green Lane<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Merseyside Police said it was further reported that the car had crashed with another vehicle, a black BYD Dolphin, causing a slight injury to the driver and passenger. They were taken to hospital as a precaution.<\/a><\/p>\n

In a video of the incident, which has been widely shared on social media, a man can be seen coming into view of a phone camera and appears to be running away from the scene. A police officer can then be seen getting out of a car and then chasing the man.<\/p>\n

As he does this, the officer can be seen pointing a Taser towards the fleeing man, who at one point appears to be just inches from the officer but manages to carry on running down the road.<\/p>\n

Another officer jumps out of a car parked across the road and grabs the man by wrapping his arms around him. In the clip, it shows the man being put to the floor by officers who then detain him.<\/p>\n

The video then pans to the aftermath of the crash which shows a black car with damage to its front and debris across the road.<\/p>\n

A 28-year-old man from Edge Hill was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle dangerously, failing to stop and possession of a controlled drug.<\/p>\n

In an update on Friday, October 17, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed the man who was arrested has been released under investigation.<\/p>\n
