It\u2019s been over a decade since George Lucas<\/a> soldStar Wars<\/a> to Disney, and the legendary filmmaker has clearly turned the page. At 81, Lucas is embracing new creative ventures \u2014 most notably, the upcoming Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles, set to open in 2026.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview withWSJ. Magazine<\/a> for their Innovators issue, Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson shared insights into this exciting new chapter. When asked if he\u2019s moved on from Star Wars after decades guiding fans through a galaxy far, far away, Lucas replied, \u201cDisney took it over and they gave it their vision. That\u2019s what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course I\u2019ve moved past it. I mean, I\u2019ve got a life,” he added. “I\u2019m building a museum. A museum is harder than making movies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Back in October 2012, Lucas sold his company Lucasfilm, including all Star Wars rights, to Disney for $4.05 billion. Since then, Disney has expanded the franchise with new movies and a slew of hit TV series on Disney+. The beloved universe returns to theaters soon with projects like The Mandalorian and Grogu, continuing the legacy Lucas started.<\/p>\n

But Lucas\u2019 focus now is on the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art<\/a>. According to its mission statement, the $1 billion museum explores \u201chow narrative art influences societies\u2014shaping beliefs, communicating values, inspiring imagination, and creating communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lucas has been open about his feelings on the Star Wars franchise\u2019s evolution under Disney. In an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, he admitted, \u201cAfter I sold the company, a lot of the ideas that were in [the original] sort of got lost. But that\u2019s the way it is. You give it up, you give it up.\u201d<\/p>\n

The filmmaker once described his decision to sell Star Wars as \u201cpainful.\u201d In The Star Wars Archives: Episodes I-III 1999-2005<\/a>, Lucas shared the personal reasons behind the move.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt that time, I was starting the next trilogy; I talked to the actors and I was starting to gear up,\u201d Lucas told author Paul Duncan. \u201cI was also about to have a daughter with my wife. It takes 10 years to make a trilogy \u2013 Episodes I to III took from 1995 to 2005.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lucas is a father to four children, including Amanda Lucas, Katie Lucas, Jett Lucas and Everest Hobson Lucas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2012, I was 69. So the question was, \u2018Am I going to keep doing this for the rest of my life? Do I want to go through this again?\u2019 Finally, I decided I\u2019d rather raise my daughter and enjoy life for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n
