Even though the musical career of Jimi Hendrix<\/a> was tragically cut short in 1970 when he died aged 27, the guitarist left a lasting legacy on the music industry. <\/p>\n Hendrix completely reinvented guitar playing and pushed the instrument\u2019s boundaries, revolutionising rock and roll through his effortlessly innovative approach. With that, his recognisable outfits, including army jackets, silky blouses, and embroidered waistcoats, made him a 1960s icon, influencing future musicians in their approach to fashion and gracing the stage with a recognisable look.\u00a0<\/p>\n It\u2019s easy to remember Hendrix as an icon, a pioneer, and an innovator, but those often feel like just words. What\u2019s better is listening to the guitar of artists and bands before and after he arrived on the music scene. Before, they were one of two things: functional or inspired by either jazz or blues. There were inflexions and moments of virtuoso brilliance, of course, but nothing like after he showed his stuff. After Hendrix found fame, the entire guitar world changed. <\/p>\n And it wasn\u2019t just the guitar. Hendrix\u2019s view of the world and how to create music was a lifestyle change for the entire industry. The great Bob Dylan, discussing the work of his contemporary, once told the\u00a0Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel\u00a0about\u00a0the moment he first heard Hendrix\u2019s version of his song \u2018All Along the Watchtower\u2019. <\/p>\n He said: \u201cIt overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn\u2019t think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Alongside \u2018All Along the Watchtower\u2019, Hendrix was also known for tracks such as \u2018Foxy Lady\u2019, which appeared on his 1967 debut album,\u00a0Are You Experienced?.\u00a0The musician\u2019s biographer, Harry Shapiro, claims that Heather Taylor inspired the song, a London socialite who ended up marrying Roger Daltrey from The Who.\u00a0<\/p>\n On the track, Hendrix sings provocative lines such as, \u201cyou know you\u2019re a cute little heartbreaker\/ Foxy\/ And you know you\u2019re a sweet little lovemaker\u201d and \u201cI want to take you home, yeah\/ I won\u2019t do you no harm, no\/You\u2019ve got to be all mine, all mine\u201d. However, he would later state that he would never approach women with the same confidence that \u2018Foxy Lady\u2019 exudes. Of course, it\u2019s a fantastic track, noted for its trembling opening note, blues-inspired solo and powerful guitar chords that evoke sleazy sensuality.\u00a0<\/p>\n Although the song is one of Hendrix\u2019s most well-known, the reality is that he actually hated playing it live. The discovery was made by\u00a0Alice Cooper, a big fan of the musician, who even hung out backstage with Hendrix <\/a>as a teenager. He told\u00a0SDR Show: \u201cI\u2019m sitting there after the show. I went to see them [Hendrix\u2019s band]. We were just a little high school band, but they said, \u2018Hey, come on up to the hotel room\u2019.\u201d <\/p>\n Imagine being a young musician and connecting with the wondrous Jimi Hendrix before you even really found your own voice. The young future rockstar even had his first drug experience with the guitar legend, \u201cWeed was the first drug, and it was [with] Jimi Hendrix.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n During another interaction with the musician, Cooper revealed<\/a> that Hendrix told him about his distaste for playing \u2018Foxy Lady\u2019 live. \u201cI was talking to Jimi Hendrix, and Jimi goes, \u2018Man, if I have to play \u2018Foxy Lady\u2019 one more time, I\u2019m going to go crazy.\u2019 I was sitting there going, \u2018If I was in the audience and he didn\u2019t play \u2018Foxy Lady,\u2019 I would really feel cheated.\u201d <\/p>\n![\"Jimi](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Jimi-Hendrix-1970-Far-Out-Magazine-F-1024x768.jpg\")
