{"id":210367,"date":"2025-10-19T05:48:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-19T05:48:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/210367\/"},"modified":"2025-10-19T05:48:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-19T05:48:07","slug":"watch-spacex-launch-its-10000th-starlink-satellite-to-orbit-today-on-rockets-record-breaking-31st-flight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/210367\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch SpaceX launch its 10,000th Starlink satellite to orbit today on rocket&#8217;s record-breaking 31st flight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"2c880f15-0028-4855-bf41-80e56c17a21a\">SpaceX will notch two big milestones on a single Falcon 9 launch today (Oct. 19), and you can watch the action live.<\/p>\n<p>A <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18962-spacex-falcon-9.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18962-spacex-falcon-9.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Falcon 9<\/a> is scheduled to launch 28 of SpaceX&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-starlink-satellites.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-starlink-satellites.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Starlink<\/a> broadband satellites from Florida&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33926-cape-canaveral.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33926-cape-canaveral.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cape Canaveral Space Force Station<\/a> today, during a four-hour window that opens at 10:52 a.m. EDT (1452 GMT).<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" href=\"\" data-url=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"2c880f15-0028-4855-bf41-80e56c17a21a-2\"><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18853-spacex.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18853-spacex.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceX<\/a> has lofted 9,988 Starlink satellites to date, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/planet4589.org\/space\/con\/star\/stats.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/planet4589.org\/space\/con\/star\/stats.html\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to<\/a> astrophysicist and satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell. So today&#8217;s launch will take that number above 10,000. It will also be the record-breaking 31st liftoff for this Falcon 9&#8217;s first stage, a booster designated 1067.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>You can see history made live: SpaceX will stream the flight via <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/launches\/sl-10-17\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/launches\/sl-10-17\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">its website<\/a> and its X account, beginning about five minutes before launch.<\/p>\n<p id=\"a91d1076-d1e5-4380-a11f-6076281dfb79\">SpaceX launched its first two Starlink prototypes to <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">low Earth orbit<\/a> (LEO) in <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/39755-spacex-used-rocket-launches-internet-satellites.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/39755-spacex-used-rocket-launches-internet-satellites.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February 2018,<\/a> then began building the megaconstellation in earnest 15 months later. The company offered Starlink service for the first time with a public beta test in October 2020 and started a commercial rollout the next year.<\/p>\n<p>Starlink now provides service to millions of customers around the world, and SpaceX continues to beef up that product by sending more and more satellites to the final frontier.<\/p>\n<p>The pace has reached extraordinary levels lately: SpaceX launched <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-starlink-launch-group-12-6\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-starlink-launch-group-12-6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">89 Starlink missions in 2024<\/a> and has already exceeded that number this year. And don&#8217;t expect it to stop anytime soon: SpaceX already has permission to loft 12,000 Starlink satellites, and the megaconstellation could eventually consist of more than 30,000 spacecraft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>Most of the 9,988 Starlink satellites that SpaceX has launched to date remain active \u2014 8,610 are currently operational, according to McDowell. Most of the others have been deorbited, guided down to burn up in <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17683-earth-atmosphere.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17683-earth-atmosphere.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Earth&#8217;s atmosphere<\/a>. (Each Starlink satellite has an operational life of about five years.)<\/p>\n<p>Previous Booster 1067 missions<\/p>\n<p id=\"e25dc217-7ad3-44b0-8cac-30c1d6dae27d\">If all goes according to plan today, Booster 1067 will come back to Earth about 8.5 minutes after liftoff, landing in the Atlantic Ocean on the SpaceX drone ship &#8220;A Shortfall of Gravitas.&#8221; It will be the 31st launch and touchdown for the booster, according to a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/launches\/sl-10-17\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/launches\/sl-10-17\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">SpaceX mission description<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Such extensive rocket reuse is a core part of SpaceX&#8217;s plan to lower the cost of spaceflight and increase its efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>That already-successful strategy could take a big leap forward soon; the company is developing a giant, fully reusable rocket called <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-starship-super-heavy.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-starship-super-heavy.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Starship<\/a>, which is designed to help humanity settle <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/47-mars-the-red-planet-fourth-planet-from-the-sun.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/47-mars-the-red-planet-fourth-planet-from-the-sun.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mars<\/a>.
