Sean Naughton narrowly missed a late conversion and the chance to snatch Connacht<\/a> victory as the Irish side lost 28-27 to the Bulls<\/a> in a thriller in Galway.<\/p>\n Naughton pulled his effort just wide after wing Mack Hansen\u2019s superb score had hauled Connacht to within a point of the visitors, who held on to clinch their third United Rugby Championship<\/a> win of the season.<\/p>\n Josh Ioane went over for the game\u2019s opening try following early pressure from the Connacht pack close to the Bulls\u2019 line and the New Zealand<\/a> fly-half converted to put the home side 7-0 up inside 10 minutes.<\/p>\n Witness guitar virtuoso Sophie Lloyd set the stage alight at the Rugby World Cup 2025 Finals with an electrifying medley of Bon Jovi\u2019s \u201cLivin\u2019 on a Prayer\u201d and the Black Eyed Peas\u2019 \u201cPump It\u201d. But the Bulls hit straight back with two clinical tries in seven minutes through scrum-half Paul de Wet<\/a> and full-back Willie Le Roux\u2019s brilliant effort, the second score converted by Keagan Johannes<\/a> to give the visitors a 12-7 half-time lead and coming after Connacht flanker Josh Murphy<\/a> had received a 20-minute red card for punching Cobus Wiese<\/a> in the head.<\/p>\n Johannes\u2019 drop goal early in the second period extended the Bulls\u2019 lead to 15-7 before Connacht reduced the deficit to a single point at 15-14 when Ioane converted after scrum-half Caolin Blade<\/a> had rolled two tackles to touch down.<\/p>\n De Wet\u2019s blindside break earned him his second try of the match and Johannes\u2019 penalty put the Bulls 25-14 ahead before Connacht stormed back when Naughton won the race to his own kick ahead to touch down.<\/p>\n Ioane missed the conversion and after Johannes and Naughton exchanged penalties, Hansen\u2019s superb score hauled the hosts to within a point at 28-27 only for Naughton to miss the chance to snatch victory.<\/p>\n For Andy Farrell\u2019s Ireland, it will be the injury to Hansen \u2013 sustained in the act of scoring \u2013 that will draw the most concern.<\/p>\n![\"Video](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/spacer-new.png\")
