Apple\u2019s next iPhone update would be iOS 26.1, it was thought, expected at the end of October. But it now seems there\u2019ll be another release before that, iOS 26.0.2. More analysis has emerged about what is in iOS 26.0.2, as well as why a possible re-release of iOS 26.0.1 is happening. Here\u2019s what we know. <\/p>\n

Although there has been evidence for some days now that iOS 26.0.2 is on its way, a new report from MacRumors<\/a> suggests it\u2019s very close now. <\/p>\n

\u201cApple’s software engineers continue to internally test iOS 26.0.2, according to MacRumors logs, which have been a reliable indicator of upcoming iOS versions,\u201d the site reported on Friday, Oct. 17.<\/p>\n

iOS 26.0.2 Release Date<\/p>\n

The report goes on to say it will likely be released by the end of next week. <\/p>\n

That makes sense. It has to come before iOS 26.1, obviously, and since that was expected to arrive some time in the week beginning Monday, Oct. 27, it can\u2019t be long now. <\/p>\n

My guess is that it will land earlier in the week rather than later, likely around Tuesday, Oct. 21 or Wednesday, Oct. 22. If it\u2019s later, it could be because of the next Apple products to land.<\/p>\n

Oct. 22, by the way, is also the day that the new iPad Pro, MacBook Pro and Apple Vision Pro with M5 chips go on sale. The iPad will run iPadOS 26.0.1, it\u2019s thought, but it\u2019s reported to be a different build number than the currently available version of iPadOS 26.0.1. <\/p>\n

This could mean that iOS 26.0.2 will be held back until the end of the week, or even later, so that iPadOS 26.0.2 can be launched to keep the release numbers in sync across the two products.<\/p>\n

Or it could mean that iOS 26.0.2 will arrive on Monday, Oct. 20 or Tuesday, Oct 21 so that it\u2019s ready to be compatible with the upcoming iPad Pro. We\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n

iOS 26.0.2: What\u2019s In The Update<\/p>\n

There are almost certainly no new features in the update. Those will be saved for iOS 26.1 in all likelihood. But the bugs that have arisen in iOS 26 will the first priority for the new update. <\/p>\n

Plus, of course, any security issues that may have appeared since iOS 26.0.1 was released are likely to be addressed, especially if they are urgent enough to mean waiting for iOS 26.1 would be a problem. <\/p>\n

Note that when it appears, there will almost certainly be an iOS 18 update as well. That\u2019s for people who are reluctant to jump into the new iOS 26 cycle too early. <\/p>\n

Apple provides this alternative for the first few releases of each new cycle, but they\u2019re unlikely to continue beyond November, for instance. <\/p>\n

Although it\u2019s not known what will be in the update, or which iPhones it will apply to, it may be that the fixes apply to the latest models, that is iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air.<\/p>\n
