Former Gloucestershire spinner Tom Smith has become a coach at the club.<\/p>\n
Smith, 38, called time on his playing career in July<\/a> after spending more than a decade with the county, latterly working with the coaching staff at the Seat Unique Stadium during his final few seasons.<\/p>\n The left-arm spinner announced his intention to transition into coaching at the time, and Gloucestershire said Smith had become “increasingly involved” with the backroom staff of both the men’s and women’s teams during the summer.<\/p>\n He is now set to begin a full-time position with the men’s squad in November when the players return from their post-season break.<\/p>\n Smith joined Gloucestershire in 2013, initially on loan from Middlesex before signing a permanent deal the following year.<\/p>\n He would go on to become the club’s second all-time leading T20 wicket-taker, with 154, and took 301 wickets across all formats during his near-13-year stint as a member of Gloucestershire’s first team.<\/p>\n Smith helped Gloucestershire win the One-Day Cup in 2015 – the club’s first trophy in 12 years – and the Vitality Blast title in 2024<\/a> before signing a T20-only deal<\/a> for what proved to be his final year as a player.<\/p>\n “The club has provided me with some fantastic opportunities over the past few years, allowing my coaching to grow, and I can’t wait to continue developing in my new role,” Smith said.<\/p>\n “While it’s been a tough season with several players moving on, it also presents an exciting opportunity for us as staff to develop the next generation of talent and begin a new era for Gloucestershire Cricket.<\/p>\n “I’m looking forward to working with the players and staff to continue building our squad and helping to shape a successful future for the club.”<\/p>\n
