St Helens are a club with a rich history, and one of the game\u2019s most prestigious when it comes to winning trophies.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, their urge for silverware has been halted in the past three seasons, with the club going from a period of dominance that included four Super League titles in a row, to not even an appearance in a major final.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, it was that lack of success that led to the departure of Paul Wellens<\/a>. The former full-back and club legend left his role after three years, with just a World Club Challenge trophy \u2013 which he won in his first match in charge \u2013 to show for his time at the helm.<\/p>\n

Now, Saints want to be fighting back at the top, and have appointed former Salford Red Devils boss Paul Rowley to take on the challenge.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 50-year-old joins on a three-year deal, and whilst this is his first role at what some would call a \u2018bigger\u2019 club, he has proved on multiple occasions he can get the best out of an underperforming squad and maximise their ability from what has been limited resources at Salford, Toronto and Leigh.<\/p>\n

Rowley<\/a> will not only be measured on his ability to get the side back competing at the top again, but on his ability to deliver silverware for the club. With youngsters such as Harry Robertson, Owen Dagnall and George Whitby in the side, there are plenty of reasons to say that the ex-Red Devils coach could go on and achieve that.<\/p>\n

We asked Serious About Rugby League fans over on Facebook<\/a> whether they think Rowley will win a trophy at his new club.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

It\u2019s fair to say there was plenty of debate to that question, with many people believing it was too early to say for definite whether Rowley and the Red Vee are a good fit.<\/p>\n

However, some think that he has done enough in his coaching career to prove that he has enough talent to take Saints back to the top.<\/p>\n

Darren Livesey: With what he did for us (barring this season) on a budget he will definitely win silver with Saints. He brings out the best in all players, and with money to buy I\u2019d be surprised if they don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Dave Schofield:\u00a0Give him time he will turn St Helens in to a good side if what he as done at Salford he will do well<\/p>\n

Andrew Dixon:\u00a0Yes. He\u2019s never had the money Saints will give him, or the squad.<\/p>\n

Craig Cunliffe:\u00a0Yep give him time love all the negativity before a ball is kicked shows what people know about rugby league<\/p>\n

Ted Asson:\u00a0Yeah give him time, I\u2019ll be honest he wasn\u2019t at the top off my list but hey ho, give him chance 1st<\/p>\n

Lee Follon:\u00a0Depends if he as cash to spend on new players<\/p>\n

Dave Johnston:\u00a0100%. Maybe not first season but you\u2019ll see a massive difference. He\u2019s a genius of the game and a great bloke.<\/p>\n

Others, however, are a bit more sceptical, and think that a club like Saints need an pre-established coach to be joining them, not one that is an unknown at a \u2018top\u2019 club.<\/p>\n

Dean Sykes: I\u2019m not sure he fits St Helens, only time will tell. Yes he\u2019s good at managing the so called smaller clubs, but can he handle a big club and the big name stars? I\u2019m not sure.<\/p>\n

Peter England:\u00a0I would say he would do an ok job but that\u2019s not enough for saints. They\u2019ll get an Aussie in before long. That\u2019s just fact not sentiment.<\/p>\n

Gary Woodward:\u00a0What\u2019s he ever won?<\/p>\n

Stephen Tatlock:\u00a0Managed.. Leigh n Salford.. didn\u2019t set alarm bells ringing. Time will tell. definitely not excited about the appointment.. but\u2026<\/p>\n
