Starfield<\/a> was seen as the flagship post-acquisition console exclusive for Xbox Series X|S when it launched in 2023, but it failed to really resonate with consumers to the level Microsoft had hoped.<\/p>\n

The game has been rumoured for PS5<\/a> ever since, but we\u2019re now approaching the end of 2025 and it\u2019s still not been confirmed for the console.<\/p>\n

The last we heard is that Bethesda is reworking the game<\/a> and wants to align all of its improvements with its PlayStation debut. It\u2019s been touted for a Spring 2026 release on Sony\u2019s console.<\/p>\n

But according to reliable rumourmonger Nate the Hate<\/a> \u2013 who\u2019s clearly extremely well connected \u2013 the port won\u2019t be announced this year.<\/p>\n

Responding to fan queries on X<\/a> (or Twitter<\/a>), he said: \u201c[I] believe the announcement will be in 2026 unless plans change.\u201d<\/p>\n

One user pushed back on the rumour, sarcastically pointing out that the game has \u201cbeen going to PS5 since 2024 according to you\u201d. To which Nate the Hate doubled down: \u201cAnd it\u2019ll go to PS5 next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

The big question is whether anyone still cares: Starfield\u2019s reputation, rightly or wrongly, is that it\u2019s not a particularly compelling game.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, on Steam, there are just 2k people exploring the cosmos right now. By comparison, 14k are playing the ancient Skyrim<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We\u2019d expected an announcement for Starfield on PS5 at The Game Awards<\/a>, but it seems like that\u2019s not going to happen.<\/p>\n

The wait for this divisive adventure goes on.<\/p>\n
