Promoted York Knights have added former Salford Red Devils and St Helens forward Matty Foster to their Super League squad for 2026.<\/p>\n
The back-rower began this year at Salford Red Devils, but their financial crisis led to him joining Championship side Oldham in August.<\/p>\n
Foster, 24, came through Saints\u2019 youth system to make his Super League debut in 2020. He played in the elite competition during a loan spell at Leigh the following year and joined Salford ahead of the 2024 season. He went on to score two tries in 19 appearances before his move to Oldham, where he featured twice in the Championship.<\/p>\n
Foster is the latest addition at York and joins Jon Bennison (St Helens), Paul Vaughan (Warrington Wolves), Jack Smith (Leeds Rhinos), Josh Griffin (Wakefield Trinity), Justin Sangare (Salford Red Devils) and Danny Richardson (Hull KR) among Knights\u2019 recruits for their debut Super League campaign.<\/p>\n
Speaking on his move, he said: \u201cAfter meeting with Clint [Goodchild, Knights\u2019 owner] and seeing what his vision is for the club and the direction he\u2019s planning, I wanted to be a part of that. I look forward to earning the respect of the coaches, team mates and the fans too.\u201d<\/p>\n
Coach Mark Applegarth described Foster as a \u201creally solid player [who] can cover a number of positions to a high standard\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cWhat has struck me about him is how much he wants to get in, work hard and improve. I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll prove to be a valuable addition to the squad.\u201d<\/p>\n
