Eddie Hearn is open to matching Jaron \u2018Boots\u2019 Ennis against the aging ex-champions Jermell Charlo and Errol Spence in 2026. He predicts that they will have a high \u201cnumber\u201d that they would be asking for to face \u2018Boots\u2019 (35-0, 31 KOs), because they really don\u2019t want that loss on their records.<\/p>\n

Charlo & Spence on the Radar<\/p>\n

Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) is the least likely option for WBA interim junior middleweight champion Ennis, because he hasn\u2019t fought since his ninth-round TKO loss to Terence Crawford on July 29, 2024. It would take a lot of bravery on the 35-year-old Spence\u2019s part to jump straight into a fight against \u2018Boots\u2019 after a long layoff.<\/p>\n

Hearn\u2019s first choice for Ennis\u2019 next fight in 2026 would be against one of these world champions at 154:<\/p>\n

Sebastian Fundora \u2013 WBC
\nAbass Baraou \u2013 WBA
\nXander Zayas \u2013 WBO
\nBakhram Murtazaliev \u2013 IBF<\/p>\n

If Hearn can\u2019t get one of those fights, he\u2019ll aim for a \u201cmarquee\u201d fight against Vergil Ortiz Jr., the WBC interim 154-lb champion.<\/p>\n

Jermell: Two Years of Rust<\/p>\n

\u201cThe key to \u2018Boots\u2019 is the legacy, the championship, and that\u2019s the belt-holders,\u201d said Eddie Hearn to Brian Custer\u2019s channel<\/a> on YouTube. \u201cSo, you\u2019ve got Fundora, Zayas, which is a great fight. You\u2019ve got Murtazaliev. You\u2019ve got Abass Baraou, who just won the WBA title. But then you\u2019ve got the other guys that don\u2019t have a belt, but are a marquee fight. Vergil Ortiz, Errol Spence, [Jermell] Charlo\u2019s name came up the other day as well.<\/p>\n

Setting up a fight against the 35-year-old inactive former undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell (35-2-1, 19 KOs) would result in Ennis receiving a lot of criticism from boxing fans. It would look like Ennis is raiding the old folks\u2019 home, wheeling out a victim from the infirmary to pad his record with.<\/p>\n

Charlo needs to show that he\u2019s still capable of fighting after two years of inactivity and three years since his last win. He looked so utterly awful in the non-effort he put in his last fight against Canelo Alvarez on September 30, 2023.<\/p>\n

Getting a fight against Baraou would likely be the easiest for Hearn for \u2018Boots,\u2019 but it wouldn\u2019t create nearly as much interest as it would if he matched him against one of the other belt-holders.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou Can Imagine the Number\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cErrol Spence and Charlo, you can imagine the number they\u2019re going to ask for in the fight because they don\u2019t really want that fight on their resume,\u201d said Hearn.<\/p>\n

To bring in Spence or Jermell, Hearn couldn\u2019t afford to be miserly and tight-fisted with the money. He would have to dig deep to tempt one of those fighters. If Turki Alalshikh doesn\u2019t get involved, which he likely wouldn\u2019t, it would come down to Hearn.<\/p>\n
