However, bathroom carpet converts may want to keep these opinions in mind when selling up \u2013 because ignoring them can turn out to be a costly mistake.<\/p>\n According to Verona Frankish, CEO of Yopa, \u2018many buyers still see them as a no-go,\u2019 finding it hard to ignore \u2018the practical and hygiene concerns around moisture, mould and cleanliness.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018Even a newly fitted\u00a0carpet\u00a0in a bathroom is often flagged by surveyors and seen as something that needs replacing,\u2019 she tells Metro.<\/p>\n \t\t In terms of value, previous Yopa research<\/a> found that unmodernised properties lose an estimated -6.2% of their value on the open market.<\/p>\n \u2018Therefore, we can say conservatively that an unmodernised bathroom with a\u00a0carpet\u00a0might negatively impact prices to the tune of around -1%, if not more,\u2019 Verona explains. \u2018Based on the current average house price of \u00a3269,735, a -1% loss is equivalent to -\u00a32,697.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n In her experience, sellers are usually asked to replace carpeted bathrooms before listing, since \u2018the majority of buyers will respond by making a lower offer due to factoring in refurb costs<\/a>.\u2019<\/p>\n You may get lucky, but based on a YouGov survey claiming one in eight Brits deem it acceptable<\/a>, the odds aren\u2019t great.<\/p>\n Verona adds: \u2018If you love the look of a\u00a0carpeted bathroom, we would recommend opting for washable rugs laid over hard flooring.
