{"id":218686,"date":"2025-10-22T20:37:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T20:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/218686\/"},"modified":"2025-10-22T20:37:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T20:37:10","slug":"pauline-ferrand-prevot-and-tadej-pogacar-headline-2025-velo-dor-award-shortlists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/218686\/","title":{"rendered":"Pauline Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot and Tadej Poga\u010dar headline 2025 V\u00e9lo d&#8217;Or award shortlists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"35458f42-84dc-441c-afd7-53f2a70476be\">The French V\u00e9lo Magazine has announced the finalists for its yearly V\u00e9lo d&#8217;Or award, with 10 men and 10 women up for the prestigious season-end prize.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side, it&#8217;s no surprise that <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/tadej-pogacar\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/tadej-pogacar\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tadej Poga\u010dar<\/a> (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) heads the selection, with the Slovenian in line for his third V\u00e9lo d&#8217;Or trophy after another dominant road racing season.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" href=\"\" data-url=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"35458f42-84dc-441c-afd7-53f2a70476be-2\">The women&#8217;s field could see <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/demi-vollering\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/demi-vollering\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Demi Vollering<\/a> (FDJ-Suez) come away with her second trophy after winning the prize in 2023, though <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/pauline-ferrand-prevot\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/pauline-ferrand-prevot\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pauline Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot<\/a>(Visma-Lease a Bike) is the favourite to come out on top.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>Poga\u010dar, who won the award in 2021 and last year, is the overwhelming favourite to win again at the ceremony in Paris on December 5. The 27-year-old won 20 races during the 2025 season, including the Tour de France, World and European Championships, the Tour of Flanders, Li\u00e8ge-Bastogne-Li\u00e8ge, Strade Bianche, Il Lombardia, La Fl\u00e8che Wallonne, and the Crit\u00e9rium du Dauphin\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;ll face competition from <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/remco-evenepoel\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/remco-evenepoel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Remco Evenepoel<\/a> (Soudal-QuickStep), who won national, world and European time trial titles during his final season at Soudal-QuickStep. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/mathieu-van-der-poel\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/mathieu-van-der-poel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mathieu van der Poel<\/a> (Alpecin-Deceuninck), who won Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix, and Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike), Tour runner-up and Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a winner, are also in the running.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s shortlist is completed by Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep), Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), Simon Yates (Visma-Lease a Bike), Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), Jo\u00e3o Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), and Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost).<\/p>\n<p>Over in the women&#8217;s competition, Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot looks to be the hot favourite after winning Paris-Roubaix and becoming the first Frenchwoman to win the modern iteration of the Tour de France Femmes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!<\/p>\n<p>Vollering \u2013 who won the European road title, La Vuelta Feminine, the Volta a Catalunya, Strade Bianche, and Itzulia Women in addition to taking second at the Tour \u2013 is another major contender.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Sprinter Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), who <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/features\/lorena-wiebes-tadej-pogacar-dusan-rajovic-which-rider-won-the-most-road-races-in-2025\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/features\/lorena-wiebes-tadej-pogacar-dusan-rajovic-which-rider-won-the-most-road-races-in-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">won the most races in the world this season with 25<\/a>, including Milan-San Remo, Gent-Wevelgem, and four stages of the Giro and Tour, is also in the running. Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-Protime), who won the Tour of Flanders but struggled with a back injury at the Giro and Tour, is a major omission from the shortlist, meanwhile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Other women in the running for the prize include Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx-Protime), Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal), Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck), Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ), Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto), Marlen Reusser (Movistar), and Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike).<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, five rider shortlists for the Eddy Merckx Trophy \u2013 which rewards the best Classics rider of the season \u2013 have also been finalised.<\/p>\n<p>Poga\u010dar and Van der Poel look set to go head-to-head for the men&#8217;s award, with Pedersen, Evenepoel, and Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) also on the list.
