{"id":220025,"date":"2025-10-23T10:12:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T10:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/220025\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T10:12:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T10:12:07","slug":"timing-of-budget-risks-ruining-christmas-for-many-retailers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/220025\/","title":{"rendered":"Timing of Budget \u2018risks ruining Christmas for many retailers\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Confidence in government support is generally low, according to a recent survey from the Association of Practising Accountants\u2019, which showed 91% of owner-managed businesses rate government support as poor or very poor, and 89% lacking confidence in the government\u2019s growth strategy.<\/p>\n<p>With the survey revealing that 64% are unlikely to make new capital investments in the next 12 months, there\u2019s a real risk that further fiscal tinkering could dampen spending and stall recovery just as retail enters its most critical trading period.<\/p>\n<p>Fleur Lewis, partner and head of mid-market at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bishopfleming.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bishop Fleming<\/a>, said: \u201cThe timing of this year\u2019s Autumn Budget, landing just days before Black Friday, risks ruining Christmas for many retailers and owner-managed businesses already struggling under the weight of rising costs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a sector that depends on consumer confidence and seasonal spending, a late-November Budget announcement \u2013 with potential tax increases \u2013 injects fresh uncertainty at the worst possible time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government must consider whether staging the Budget so close to the retail sector\u2019s golden quarter was an appropriate move.
