{"id":220122,"date":"2025-10-23T11:12:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T11:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/220122\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T11:12:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T11:12:07","slug":"oscar-de-la-hoya-says-he-knows-what-fight-canelo-will-want-next-and-its-not-a-crawford-rematch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/220122\/","title":{"rendered":"Oscar De La Hoya Says He Knows What Fight Canelo Will Want Next And It&#8217;s Not A Crawford Rematch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Legendary fighter-turned-promoter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/oscar-de-la-hoya\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oscar De La Hoya<\/a> has predicted what he believes will be next for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/canelo-alvarez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canelo Alvarez<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Canelo was handed the third defeat of his professional career last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/terence-crawford-defines-career-with-remarkable-canelo-alvarez-victory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">suffering a unanimous decision loss to pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford<\/a> in their historic showdown at the Allegiant Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The Mexican superstar now finds himself at a crossroads in a career after he was dethroned of his undisputed super-middleweight championship, although the four-weight world champion is unlikely to announce his retirement from the sport.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst reports are suggesting that Canelo could actually face \u2018Bud\u2019 Crawford in a rematch next, De La Hoya has spoken out and revealed exactly what he believes his former prot\u00e9g\u00e9 is going to want to do next.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jedigoodman\/status\/1980345563964142050\" rel=\"nofollow\">Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show<\/a>, De La Hoya said that he expects Canelo to target a \u2018soft opponent\u2019 next although he doesn\u2019t believe Riyadh Season\u2019s Turki Alalshikh will allow this to happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Canelo is going to try and pick a soft opponent for his next fight, given the fact that he has such a lucrative contract with Turki [Alalshikh], I don\u2019t think Turki\u2019s gonna let him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think Turki will allow him to fight a softie you know because there\u2019s a lot of money being paid out to Canelo, so Turki is going to demand his moneys worth, he\u2019s gonna demand fighting the very best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Canelo signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season earlier this year, prior to his monumental showdown with Crawford.<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old has a further two fights left on his deal with Alalshikh, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/news\/major-update-on-canelo-future\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">although it remains to be seen when exactly he will be making his return to the ring<\/a> after he sustained an injury to his elbow which he is set to have surgery on this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Legendary fighter-turned-promoter Oscar De La Hoya has predicted what he believes will be next for Canelo Alvarez.
