{"id":220836,"date":"2025-10-23T18:03:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T18:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/220836\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T18:03:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T18:03:10","slug":"riddick-bowe-names-the-heavyweight-who-humiliated-and-embarrassed-him-in-the-ring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/220836\/","title":{"rendered":"Riddick Bowe Names The Heavyweight Who &#8216;Humiliated&#8217; And &#8216;Embarrassed&#8217; Him In The Ring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/riddick-bowe\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Riddick Bowe<\/a> is widely considered to be one of the greatest heavyweights of his entire generation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/news\/bowe-says-one-mans-power-stood-above-rest\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The New York-native had an exceptional professional boxing career<\/a>, making his mark in the paid ranks after his success at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul where he claimed a super-heavyweight silver medal.<\/p>\n<p>Bowe suffered just one single defeat throughout the course of his 19-year career, capturing the world heavyweight championship on two occasions along the way.<\/p>\n<p>His 1992 victory over countryman Evander Holyfield saw him become the undisputed heavyweight champion, although he would suffer the first defeat of his career in their rematch one year later.<\/p>\n<p>Bowe settled their rivalry in his third encounter with Holyfield in November of 1995, <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/bowe-vs-golota-revisited-the-dirtiest-rivalry-in-heavyweight-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">which he followed up with back-to-back victories over Poland\u2019s four-time world heavyweight title challenger Andrew Golota<\/a>, who was actually disqualified in both of his bouts with \u2018Big Daddy\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vault.si.com\/vault\/1996\/12\/23\/bowe-by-low-andrew-golota-again-sank-to-the-depths-to-squander-a-sound-beating-of-riddick-bowe?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Speaking in a resurfaced interview<\/a> after his first showdown with Golota, Bowe sensationally claimed that his Polish rival was outboxing him convincingly before being called to a halt after a number of low-blows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI figured I was wiser and more experienced. My mentality told me Golota was a bum. Golota embarrassed me, humiliated me.<\/p>\n<p>Daddy thought he could get by without training. But he made a mistake. Don\u2019t you try to take shortcuts. If you cheat on a test in school, the same thing will happen to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After his second clash with Golota, which was also stopped after more low blows, Bowe would go on to take an eight-year hiatus from the sport, making his return to the ring in September of 2004.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Big Daddy\u2019 would remain unbeaten for the rest of his professional career, racking up victories over Marcus Rhode, Billy Zumbrun and Gene Pukall before announcing his retirement shortly after.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Riddick Bowe is widely considered to be one of the greatest heavyweights of his entire generation.
