A pure-white moose foraging within the lush undergrowth of a Swedish forest. It might sound like something from a fairy tale, but this mythical-looking creature is in fact very real.<\/p>\n
According to experts<\/a>, the ghost-like coat is not caused by albinism<\/a>, but instead a recessive gene \u2013 a genetic mutation that affects moose<\/a> along with various other animals including birds and reptiles.<\/p>\n Estimates suggest there may be around 100 of these white moose \u2013 or elk, as they are often called in Europe \u2013 living across Sweden.<\/p>\n Here, footage shows a rare ‘ghost moose’ wandering through the forests of V\u00e4rmland in south-west Sweden. <\/p>\n Rare footage shows the white moose in the V\u00e4rmland region of Sweden.
