Budget retailer Aldi<\/a> is set to open new shops across the UK selling products for an even lower price than usual.<\/p>\n But there\u2019s a bit of a catch \u2013 most Brits won\u2019t be able to visit them as they\u2019re not going to be open to the general public. <\/p>\n Known as colleague shops, they\u2019re intended for Aldi <\/a>staff members only and will be located inside the retailer\u2019s 11 distribution centres. <\/p>\n The new shops<\/a> will give staff the chance to buy discounted products which can\u2019t be sold in stores, in a bid to reduce food waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to Aldi, the food<\/a> products will all still be safe for consumption and will help prevent an estimated 240 tonnes of food waste per year.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t Luke Emery, national sustainability<\/a> director at Aldi UK, said: \u2018The colleague shop is another example of how we\u2019re working to cut food waste across our operations.<\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s a practical initiative that benefits both colleagues and the environment, and we\u2019re pleased to extend it nationwide following a successful pilot.\u2019<\/p>\n The roll out of colleague stores follow a successful trial at Aldi\u2019s Darlington Regional Distribution Centre.<\/p>\n And this isn\u2019t the only way Aldi is tackling food waste, as the retailer also recently launched new \u2018reduction zones\u2019 in its UK stores.
