Digital Foundry has dropped its latest DF Tech Review<\/a> – this time for Xbox studio Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Naturally, we’ve included the video version of their analysis up above – which goes over every version of the game including Xbox Series X and S, and PS5 & PS5 Pro. What’s curious here is that due to PSSR (PS5 Pro’s upscaling technique), the Series X version is the superior option on console right now – with base PS5 lagging behind a little bit in resolution and performance as well.<\/p>\n

“The Outer Worlds 2 fully leans into the Unreal Engine 5 feature set, even if the stylised art style isn’t typical of the engine. The results are impressive on Xbox with three different but very solid visual modes. However, the experience on PlayStation 5 consoles definitely needs improvement in a number of areas.”<\/p>\n

During our hands-on with the game<\/a>, we noted how we made use of the Performance mode on Xbox Series X for the best FPS possible. However, this analysis does point out the visual drawbacks that come with this mode – so it may be worth watching this before making your decision. We’re no tech experts, and we’re happy to leave that to the DF team!<\/p>\n
