{"id":224727,"date":"2025-10-25T13:12:25","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T13:12:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/224727\/"},"modified":"2025-10-25T13:12:25","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T13:12:25","slug":"pga-tour-cancels-the-sentry-after-failing-to-find-alternative-venue-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/224727\/","title":{"rendered":"PGA Tour cancels The Sentry after failing to find alternative venue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The PGA Tour has cancelled its 2026 season-opening event in Hawaii after failing to find an alternative venue to host The Sentry. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The tournament, which was to be played from 8-11 January, had to be moved from the Plantation Course at Kapalua on the Island of Maui because of drought conditions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, the PGA Tour said that, &#8220;having assessed alternate venues in Hawaii and beyond&#8221; it could not play the tournament because of &#8220;logistical challenges &#8211; including shipping deadlines, tournament infrastructure and vendor support&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The first event of next year will now be the Sony Open from 15-18 January at the  Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Sentry, which relocated from California to Maui in 1999, was the PGA Tour&#8217;s season opener between 1986 and 2013 before returning to that slot in 2024, when the Tour switched back to a calendar-year schedule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The field at the event would have featured the top 50 players from the previous year&#8217;s FedExCup standings, as well as winners of PGA Tour events from the previous year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The PGA Tour has cancelled its 2026 season-opening event in Hawaii after failing to find an alternative venue&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":218832,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[39],"tags":[5904,101,56,54,55],"class_list":{"0":"post-224727","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-golf","8":"tag-golf","9":"tag-sports","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom","12":"tag-unitedkingdom"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/224727","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=224727"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/224727\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/218832"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=224727"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=224727"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=224727"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
