The remains of a \u2018beautiful and talented\u2019 woman were discovered in her flat a year after she died, when police made a welfare check.<\/p>\n
23-year-old Charlotte Leader was found in her flat in Bolton, Greater\u00a0Manchester<\/a>, on August 6, 2025, an inquest was told.<\/p>\n Her mother, Chantay Simm, said that the family had not heard from Charlotte since September 2021. Despite searching for her, Ms Simm added that her daughter was \u2018impossible to find\u2019. <\/p>\n Neighbours also said they never saw the young woman leave her home.\u00a0<\/p>\n Charlotte was discovered by police who were conducting a welfare check after property managing company Bolton at Home could not gain entry to the flat for a utility inspection. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n In a social media<\/a> tribute, her family said: \u2018Charlotte was a very beautiful and talented young woman.<\/p>\n \u2018Her many talents were playing the guitar and keyboard and she also had a love for art.<\/p>\n \u2018She was loved tremendously by the family and will be missed every day.\u2019<\/p>\n A coroner said Charlotte\u2019s flat was \u2018immaculate\u2019 when police investigated and that there was no evidence to suggest suicide.<\/p>\n Assistant coroner Stephen\u00a0Teasdale told Bolton Coroner\u2019s Court that the young woman had \u2018suffered from mental health<\/a> issues\u2019, adding: \u2018In time she becomes a stranger from the family, she pushes people away, and she disengages from the mental health services as well.\u2019<\/p>\n Mr Teasdale said there were \u2018no illicit drugs found at the scene\u2019 and that nothing in Charlotte\u2019s diaries would \u2018suggest that as a problem\u2019.<\/p>\n He also reported that she declined an appointment with mental health services in 2022 and that she had no further contact with them.<\/p>\n The 23-year-old\u2019s sister, Caroline Calow, said that Charlotte was \u2018actively trying to avoid contact\u2019 and that she had a history of eating disorders, including bulimia, from \u2018quite a young age\u2019.<\/p>\n Inside the young woman\u2019s flat, police discovered a \u2018large volume of letters\u2019 behind the front door and food in the fridge with sell-by dates of July 2024. They then found Charlotte\u2019s body under her duvet.<\/p>\n The police investigations also found that the only conversations she had on her phone<\/a> were with ChatGPT<\/a>, which Charlotte had asked to help her.<\/p>\n The last message she wrote, dated July 30, 2024, said: \u2018Help me, I\u2019ve went and got food again.\u2019<\/p>\n The AI chatbot responded: \u2018You sound conflicted about having food.\u2019<\/p>\n Charlotte replied: \u2018It\u2019s food that I didn\u2019t want and that\u2019s frustrating.\u2019<\/p>\n Detective Inspector Paul Quinn said there were other messages in the same context and it appeared that Charlotte only exchanged messages with the AI service.<\/p>\n According to Dr Andrew Coates, a pathologist at Royal Bolton Hospital, it was difficult to examine Charlotte\u2019s remains as she had become \u2018mummified\u2019.
