The man at the centre of a murder investigation in Cheetham Hill<\/a> has been named as tributes pour in from family and friends.<\/p>\n

Vernard Murray was stabbed to death<\/a> following a car crash amid a suspected chase off Cardinal Street<\/a> on Thursday (October 23).<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called at 2.25pm following reports of a disturbance. Mr Murray, 26, was taken to hospital with serious knife wounds. He tragically later died.<\/p>\n

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was being questioned by detectives on Saturday (October 25). GMP has been contacted for an update on the investigation.<\/p>\n

Though formal identification is yet to take place, tributes have been paid to Mr Murray on social media.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the Manchester Evening News’ Facebook page, Gerrard Leonie wrote: “R.I.P Vernard you’ll be missed can’t believe you’ve been took away fly high.”<\/p>\n

Angela Clawson posted: “RIP to a lovely young man everyone guna miss u bro good night god bless.”<\/p>\n

In a public Facebook post, Mr Murray’s sister Tammy thanked people for their support ‘at this insanely painful time for [her] family’. “Forever 26 our angel,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Thank you all so so much for your condolences and messages we have seen and read them all. I wish we had the words to message each and every 1 of yous back but were so grateful for them all at this insanely painful time.”<\/p>\n

In a further post, alongside a family photo, she added: “Forever 26 my boy until the wheels come off my best friend… best brother I could have ever wished and hope for life was so full with you in it.”<\/p>\n

Scores of friends posted messages of support for the family. Mr Murray’s loved ones are understood to be too upset to speak publicly following the tragedy.<\/p>\n

Terrifying footage showed the moment a car flipped and landed on its roof after clipping another vehicle.<\/a><\/p>\n

The occupant is seen getting out of the upturned car before being chased on foot by two people, understood to have seconds earlier been in a vehicle behind giving chase.<\/p>\n

Neighbours told the Manchester Evening News they heard a loud bang at around 2pm, before police stormed the area. Forensic work was carried out on Friday as a cordon was erected.<\/p>\n

Flowers were later left at the scene. It is understood friends and loved ones of Mr Murray gathered at nearby Smedley Park on Friday night to pay tribute.<\/p>\n
