{"id":226398,"date":"2025-10-26T11:52:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-26T11:52:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/226398\/"},"modified":"2025-10-26T11:52:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-26T11:52:11","slug":"pretty-crazy-katie-archibald-and-maddie-leech-win-madison-gold-on-track-world-championships-day-four-anna-morris-defends-individual-pursuit-crown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/226398\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Pretty crazy&#8217; &#8211; Katie Archibald and Maddie Leech win Madison gold on Track World Championships day four, Anna Morris defends individual pursuit crown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"63f3d1be-62b6-4d9f-b7ab-ae142ee872f5\">Great Britain\u2019s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/tag\/katie-archibald\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/tag\/katie-archibald\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Katie Archibald<\/a> and Maddie Leech took home a masterful Madison title on Saturday night at the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/uci-track-world-championships-everything-you-need-to-know\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/uci-track-world-championships-everything-you-need-to-know\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UCI Track World Championships<\/a>, adding a third gold medal to their country\u2019s tally before <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/anna-morris-breaks-world-record-twice-to-claim-individual-pursuit-european-title\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/anna-morris-breaks-world-record-twice-to-claim-individual-pursuit-european-title\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anna Morris<\/a> made it four in the individual pursuit.<\/p>\n<p>The Madison pair came into the event with the goal of a top-five finish, but ended up the runaway leaders after the Netherlands crashed out. They took the lead in the second half of the 120-lap race, scoring consistently across the final four sprints, and finishing with 30 points, six ahead of France in second, and 10 ahead of the Olympic champions Italy.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" href=\"\" data-url=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"63f3d1be-62b6-4d9f-b7ab-ae142ee872f5-2\">The victory marked Archibald\u2019s first in the event since 2018, and her seventh rainbow jersey in total. Leech, a debutant, enjoyed gold as her first Worlds medal.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty crazy. I don\u2019t think I still believe it, but hopefully in the morning it will sink in,\u201d the 22-year-old said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">A stranger to World Championships podiums, Leech was guided through the ceremony by Archibald, who pointed to where to stand, and helped her young team-mate into her rainbow jersey after it became caught on her earring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nine years between us,\u201d Archibald said of her partner. \u201cMaddie was 13 years old when the first women\u2019s Madison title was contended. She\u2019s grown up with this race as a reality, which hasn\u2019t always been the case. This year marked the first time the event was contested over 4km, having previously been 3km.<\/p>\n<p>Winning over the new distance, Morris said, was \u201creally special\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know how I\u2019d feel coming into the race being a defending champion, so that was a new experience. I just tried to stick to my processes, and I had support from my team around me. It was nice to finish it off,\u201d said the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/its-going-to-keep-coming-down-anna-morris-breaks-world-record-for-a-third-time-in-the-individual-pursuit\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/racing\/its-going-to-keep-coming-down-anna-morris-breaks-world-record-for-a-third-time-in-the-individual-pursuit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">British champion<\/a> and former world record holder.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really nice to be able to share the podium with Josie. The benchmark in the event now stands at 1:03.121, more than a second faster than the previous 1:04.497.<\/p>\n<p>Just three points separated fourth from first in the men\u2019s omnium.
