Thor Hushovd<\/a> has never been one for modest targets. Days after Uno-X Mobility<\/a> confirmed their long-awaited WorldTour promotion, the team\u2019s general manager is already sketching out what comes next \u2014 and the ambitions are every bit as daring as the journey that got them here.<\/p>\n

The promotion, sealed by Sakarias Koller Loland\u2019s breakthrough victory at the Veneto Classic, ensures Uno-X automatic entry into all of cycling\u2019s biggest races for the next WorldTour cycle, starting in 2026. But for Hushovd, that milestone is merely \u201cthe beginning of a much harder road\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an intense and emotional Sunday,\u201d he told Dagbladet<\/a>. \u201cNow the real work starts \u2014 we\u2019re already preparing for next season and looking at how we can strengthen the team further.\u201d<\/p>\n


\n\u201cPedersen is my dream rider\u201d<\/p>\n

Hushovd isn\u2019t shy about what kind of riders he admires \u2014 but his dream targets have more to do with character than cost. \u201cMads Pedersen is my dream rider,\u201d he admitted. \u201cI like the way he races \u2014 he rides a bit like I did. Maybe I\u2019m a little blinded by that,\u201d he said with a grin.<\/p>\n

That admiration doesn\u2019t necessarily mean a big-money signing is imminent. While rumours of high-profile additions inevitably follow Uno-X\u2019s WorldTour promotion, Hushovd says timing \u2014 not finances \u2014 will decide any major move.<\/p>\n

\u201cA Vingegaard wouldn\u2019t cost more than our entire budget,\u201d he laughed. \u201cWe\u2019ve got more than 50 riders \u2014 he doesn\u2019t earn that much. If something like that ever happened, it would have to be the right timing.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to reports, Jonas Vingegaard<\/a>\u2019s salary at Team Visma | Lease a Bike sits between \u20ac4.3 and \u20ac5.2 million, while Mads Pedersen<\/a> earns a little over \u20ac2.6 million at Lidl-Trek \u2014 figures that highlight the gap Uno-X would need to bridge to compete for those signatures. \u201cThere\u2019s no doubt they\u2019re riders every team would love to have,\u201d Hushovd said. \u201cBut we don\u2019t have the budget for that today.\u201dBuilding from within<\/p>\n

For all the speculation, Hushovd insists Uno-X\u2019s future will be built primarily on its own foundations rather than blockbuster transfers. \u201cThe perfect scenario is to develop a rider ourselves who wins a big race,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can buy yourself a better chance, sure \u2014 but that costs money. We\u2019ll start with the group we have and see what\u2019s possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

That group currently features 20 Norwegians and nine Danes, a balance Hushovd intends to maintain as the team enters cycling\u2019s top tier for the first time.<\/p>\n

From a wildcard project to full-time WorldTour team, Uno-X\u2019s journey is already one of modern cycling\u2019s most remarkable success stories. Now comes the test of proving they belong there \u2014 and perhaps, one day, persuading a Danish superstar or two that the biggest Scandinavian dream is already unfolding in yellow.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Thor Hushovd has never been one for modest targets.
