Arsenal could sack Mikel Arteta at the end of the season if he doesn\u2019t win the Premier League title, according to reports and Wayne Rooney.<\/p>\n
The Gunners, who beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Sunday, closed a five-point deficit on Liverpool in recent weeks to go top of the Premier League with the title now firmly in their hands.<\/p>\n
Liverpool are on a four-match losing run in the Premier League, while Arsenal<\/a> have won their last four matches in the lead to build a seven-point lead over Arne Slot\u2019s defending champions.<\/p>\n Bournemouth are currently Arsenal\u2019s biggest challengers in the Premier League with Andoni Iraola\u2019s side currently four points behind Arteta\u2019s men in second position.<\/p>\n There has been some criticism of Arsenal for scoring most of their goals from set-pieces this season with their critics insisting that they must start scoring more from open play as it\u2019s not sustainable.<\/p>\n And Manchester United legend Rooney insists that Arteta must win the Premier League title at Arsenal this season or face the sack in the summer.<\/p>\n READ:\u00a0Two Arsenal players in Premier League XI of the season so far<\/a><\/p>\n Rooney told BBC Sport<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cThe squad is good enough now and I think they\u2019ve had the experiences which have got them close, but I think they\u2019re ready for it.<\/p>\n \u201cIf they don\u2019t win it now, you\u2019d probably see a change of manager.\u201d<\/p>\n And now Spanish website Fichajes insists that<\/a> the Arsenal board is \u2018doubting Mikel Arteta\u2019s project after an investment of more than \u00a31billion and no major titles since 2021.\u2019<\/p>\n Patience in the the Gunners boardroom is \u2018beginning to wear thin\u2019 as they look for silverware now and the Premier League club \u2018will assess whether to continue the current approach or embark on a new path\u2019 at the end of the season.<\/p>\n The report adds: \u2018Arsenal\u00a0\u2018s board\u00a0hasn\u2019t announced an immediate decision, but the sporting and financial indicators are alarming. People call them set-piece FC and all that.<\/p>\n \u201cBut they are up there with teams with the most shots in the Premier League and had the fewest goals conceded, conceded the fewest chances and the fewest shots.<\/p>\n \u201cThey are brilliant. They sit top of the league and they deserve to be there.\u201d<\/p>\n Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott added:\u00a0\u201cArsenal can do a bit of everything now.
