Police have issued a statement following a crash on the M6 as huge delays continue this morning.<\/a><\/p>\n The serious crash happened last night (Sunday) at around 9.30pm on the southbound side of the motorway near Leyland and Standish.<\/p>\n Lancashire Police said it involved two vehicles and happened close to the Charnock Richard services.<\/p>\n The motorway was fully closed off last night as emergency crews responded on the scene.<\/p>\n Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE<\/a><\/p>\n One lane was then reopened on the northbound side of the motorway, with the southbound side remaining fully closed off this morning for accident investigation work.<\/p>\n Two lanes also remain shut on the northbound side, with National Highways reporting delays of up to 100 minutes.<\/p>\n A diversion route is in place on the southbound stretch of the M6.<\/p>\n In a statement issued this morning, Lancashire Police thanked drivers for their patience as officers continue their work on the scene.<\/p>\n The force also urged people not to speculate online about what happened in the crash.<\/p>\n In full, the statement said: “We want to let you know that the M6 remains closed between J27 (Standish) and J28 (Leyland) following a collision yesterday, and will remain closed for some time, including over rush hour.<\/p>\n “The collision is reported to involve two vehicles, and is reported to have happened near to Charnock Richard services on the Southbound carriageway.<\/p>\n “An investigation is underway, and the motorway remains closed whilst our officers carry out enquiries.<\/p>\n “We know this may cause some discussion within the local communities, but we ask that you refrain from speculating online or otherwise. When we are able to provide further details, we will.<\/p>\n “If your journey is delayed, or your route is altered – thank you in advance for your patience.
