If you grew up with the PS1, you\u2019ll remember Battle Arena Toshinden<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Whether you actually owned one of the 3D brawlers or not, we bet you\u2019ll have examined its box on store shelves. It\u2019s a pretty iconic series from the 32-bit PlayStation era.<\/p>\n

And now it\u2019s set to make a comeback, courtesy of Tokyo-based dev Edia, who\u2019s licensed the intellectual property<\/a> from owner Takara Tomy.<\/p>\n

While it hasn\u2019t announced specific platform plans, it says it aims to bring all three PS1 titles to \u201cmodern\u201d consoles, which will almost certainly include the PS5. This, it should be stressed, will be separate from Sony\u2019s own emulation efforts.<\/p>\n

Edia has a good track record when it comes to porting retro games, so you can expect modern conveniences to be bundled in and solid emulation across the board.<\/p>\n

The original Battle Arena Toshinden was a PS1 launch game, you may recall, and was pegged as a rival to SEGA Saturn\u2019s Virtua Fighter 2<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n

It\u2019d eventually go on to be overshadowed by Tekken<\/a> in the PS1 3D fighter space, but it still served as a very early indication of what Sony\u2019s new console could achieve.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll be interested to play the trilogy again, which Edia says will release somewhere between fiscal year 2026 and 2027.<\/p>\n

We hope the developer includes lots of supplementary materials as well, like the series\u2019 manga and anime adaptations, which would be cool as unlockable extras.<\/p>\n
