Essex Cricket are happy to announce that Simon Fernandes has signed a professional contract with the Club.<\/p>\n
Fernandes, 25, has been rewarded with a two-year senior deal following a prominent season with the Essex Men\u2019s first team, moving up from his rookie contract.<\/p>\n
The wicketkeeper-batter was a key figure in Essex\u2019s Metro Bank One Day Cup squad during the 2025 campaign and has also featured as a substitute keeper in several County Championship fixtures.<\/p>\n
Batting right-handed in the middle order, Fernandes scored 138 runs in seven One Day Cup innings at an impressive average of 34.50, including a top score of 46* against Nottinghamshire in the opening round.<\/p>\n
Across the eight group stage matches, Fernandes claimed ten catches and completed three stumpings as he stepped up as Essex Men\u2019s wicketkeeper. <\/p>\n
Colchester-born Fernandes also enjoyed success at club level, helping Colchester & East Essex secure the Essex Premier League title on the final game of the season.<\/p>\n
On signing his new deal, Fernandes said: \u201cI am very pleased to be signing a full pro contract with Essex. <\/p>\n
\u201cI have loved my time with the Club and have been pleased with my contributions with the first team and Second XI when my opportunities came.<\/p>\n
\u201cI cannot wait to keep working hard for Essex and repay the faith that the Club has shown me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Director of Cricket, Chris Silverwood said: \u201cSimon\u2019s journey is a brilliant example of hard work and perseverance paying off. <\/p>\n
\u201cSince coming through our Second XI, he has put in some great performances throughout the One Day Cup competition, where he has become a key part of the side. <\/p>\n
\u201cAdditionally, Simon\u2019s willingness to step up as a sub-keeper when called upon in the County Championship speaks volumes about his professionalism. <\/p>\n
