While we\u2019ve generally been fans of the changes, not every swing in this Expressive direction is going to be a hit. And even though we saw Google take a very slow, measured approach to deploying these updates, some of those less-than-successful tweaks have managed to slip through to public releases. The good news is that Google is learning from your feedback, and already appears to be correcting just such an oversight.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"e_Yg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"Google Clock Expressive alarm dismiss\"  alt=\"Google Clock Expressive alarm dismiss\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Screenshot_20250503-153203-scaled.jpg\"\/>Material 3 Expressive<img class=\"e_Yg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"Google Clock Material alarm dismiss\"  alt=\"Google Clock Material alarm dismiss\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Screenshot_20250505-180004.png\"\/>Material 3<\/p>\n<p>When that looks good, that looks good, and we didn\u2019t immediately see any problem there. But it\u2019s very difficult to account for all edge cases right out of the gate, and once this finally went live, it didn\u2019t take long for users to finally start pointing out problems, like in this Reddit post from user <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/pixel_phones\/comments\/1n6c0ed\/google_fu_up_alarm_design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">saahil20<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"e_Yg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"gray on gray google clock alarm\"  alt=\"gray on gray google clock alarm\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/gray-on-gray-google-clock-alarm.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>That gray-on-gray is really an unfortunate color pairing, and especially if you\u2019re just waking up with a head still full of fog, we can\u2019t imagine that\u2019s going to be very easy to read at a glance.<\/p>\n<p>The good news? Google\u2019s in the process of undoing this change. With version 8.3 of Google\u2019s Clock app, we\u2019re once again seeing our alarm screen against a solid background.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t want to miss the best from Android Authority?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/andauth.co\/AAGooglePreferredSource\" class=\"e_ym\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\"><img class=\"e_Yg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"google preferred source badge light@2x\"  alt=\"google preferred source badge light@2x\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/google_preferred_source_badge_light@2x.png\"\/><img class=\"e_Yg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"google preferred source badge dark@2x\"  alt=\"google preferred source badge dark@2x\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/google_preferred_source_badge_dark@2x.png\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you weren\u2019t having any issues with colors, you might not love that change, but we find it hard to fault Google for (eventually) choosing to err on the side of legibility.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that tweak, we\u2019ve also spotted a couple other interesting differences with this new release. For one, we get a touch of the ongoing Gemini-fication of all things previously Assistant.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"e_Yg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"google clock assistant routine 1b\"  alt=\"google clock assistant routine 1b\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/google-clock-assistant-routine-1b.jpg\"\/><img class=\"e_Yg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"google clock assistant routine 2\"  alt=\"google clock assistant routine 2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/google-clock-assistant-routine-2-scaled.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not huge, but the option to run a routine after your alarm goes off is beginning to drop its Assistant branding, appearing now as just \u201cRoutines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That one\u2019s already beginning to hit users, but for our final change we\u2019re looking at something that\u2019s not yet visible in the app. We\u2019ve uncovered developer progress towards a new, pulsing animation for the time.<\/p>\n<p>Here, you can see the weight of the lines forming those numerals grow thicker and thinner, for an eye-catching look.<\/p>\n<p>We can\u2019t yet say when this might start showing up, but look for these other tweaks hitting your phone soon, as you get Google Clock 8.3.<\/p>\n<p>\u26a0\ufe0f An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code.
