A Bradford Bulls forward has confirmed his surprise retirement from the sport of rugby league following the club\u2019s return to Super League.<\/p>\n

Still only 30, second-row forward Matty Gee has decided that it\u2019s time to hang up the boots with the veteran forward officially announcing his retirement via his personal social media.<\/p>\n

Bradford have since shared that news and paid tribute to Gee, who signed for the Bulls ahead of the 2025 season from Halifax Panthers.<\/p>\n

Starting his career with Salford Red Devils, Gee had a series of loan spells before signing permanently with London Broncos where he made 71 appearances across three seasons, including in the Million Pound Game where the Broncos beat Toronto.<\/p>\n

He\u2019d then join Hull KR and make 13 appearances during the disrupted COVID season before signing with Leigh (then Centurions) and then at Fax, before signing with Bradford for 2025 where he would play 28 games and prove a key player across a campaign that saw the club finish third and ultimately earn promotion.<\/p>\n

Bradford Bulls forward Matty Gee makes retirement call<\/p>\n

Despite a return to Super League, Gee has made the decision to call time on his career and it does appear to have come as somewhat of a shock given the fact Bradford had already announced their departing players earlier this month<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Within that statement they confirmed that more deals were being worked on and decisions being made and it seems that Gee\u2019s decision is to call time on his impressive career.<\/p>\n

Announcing that, the 30-year-old\u2019s social media post read:\u00a0\u201cWell the time has come to hang the boots up. It\u2019s been a pleasure to live my dream for 12 years and to represent the clubs I have but the time has come that I can start spending more time at home with my family. I\u2019ve played in places all over and had so many unreal experiences over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWanna thank all the players and staff I\u2019ve worked with over the years, I have made mates for life. I also wanna thank all my family and friends for the support over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank my beautiful wife for the support couldn\u2019t of been easy doing long distance in London or when we moved to hull. I couldn\u2019t of done it without her. Rl, it\u2019s been a pleasure, onto the next chapter\u201d<\/p>\n

Bradford offered congratulations and a brief history of Gee\u2019s career as part of their way to pay tribute. All at Serious About Rugby League would also like to wish Matty the best in his new chapter.<\/p>\n
