After long insisting that it will release its first trifold phone this year<\/a>, Samsung has gotten one step closer by showing off a version of the hardware at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, being held this week in Korea. No-one\u2019s allowed to touch it though (let alone fold it), and Samsung is staying coy about whether this is a final version of the hardware or not.<\/p>\n

The trifold is on display in a glass case in both its folded and unfolded states. An animation shows off how the device folds between those forms, but the actual hardware is strictly static. As rumored, both sides seem to fold inwards together like a \u201cG,\u201d rather than the accordion-style folds of the Huawei Mate XT<\/a>, now in its second generation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Samsung hasn\u2019t named the device, or even confirmed if this is a version of the phone that\u2019s ready to release. \u201cThe recent showcase reflects ongoing R&D efforts, and we plan to bring this next generation device to users within this year,\u201d an unnamed company spokesperson told SamMobile in a statement.<\/p>\n
