Stallholders have been told that out of respect to the ‘community’ market they should ‘communicate, confirm and show up’Ramsbottom makers market<\/p>\n

A stallholder was left to sell their wares \u2018completely on their own\u2019, after no-shows and last minute drop outs left section of a town\u2019s makers market near-abandoned.<\/p>\n

Ramsbottom<\/a> Makers Market, held once a month, has gained a reputation for attracting visitors to the town with independent businesses selling, food, clothing and showcasing wide and various crafts.<\/p>\n

Spread across the civic hall, St Paul\u2019s gardens on Bridge Street and the town\u2019s urn statue, organisers say the market has always been about \u2018community, fairness and an ethos of \u2018handmade, heartfelt and homegrown\u2019.<\/p>\n

However, at last Sunday\u2019s event, all but one of traders due to set up at St Paul\u2019s gardens, failed to show up or cancelled with late notice, which organisers said \u2018let others down\u2019.<\/p>\n

Organiser of the market, Clare Cummins, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: \u201cI don\u2019t like this, but it needs saying.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always done my best to treat people fairly, offering flexibility, support and even free or reduced stalls to help small traders get started. But no-shows and last-minute drop-outs let others down.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday, one lovely trader ended up completely on their own on St Paul\u2019s gardens because others didn\u2019t turn up. It\u2019s not fair and it\u2019s not how we do things here.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo please communicate, confirm and show up. Let\u2019s keep it fair, supportive and full of Rammy spirit. Thank you to our brilliant regulars who bring their magic every single month.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clare said that at St Paul\u2019s gardens there had been an expectation of around six stalls on Sunday with around 30 traders who did turn up, set up at the other locations.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cOur regulars, the ones we\u2019ve built up a rapport with are really really good.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut seeing one stallholder, who turns up every month and never lets us down on her own because we didn\u2019t get any notification for the others made me really feel for her.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn market days I\u2019m up at 4.30am, organising and wanting the day to be successful. \u201cI could have been contacted.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I\u2019d known she was going to be on her own at the gardens I would have made space in another part of the market.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re a community and it\u2019s about trying to get the traders to be successful. I guess what we\u2019re saying to the people who don\u2019t let is know is that we\u2019re a self-supporting community and that is not how we work.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the disappointing turnout last weekend stallholders at the markets are now being requested to tell organisers earlier if they can\u2019t attend and stalls will only be confirmed once payment and details have been received.<\/p>\n

The next market, on Sunday, November 30 between 11am and 3,30pm, is billed as a \u2018Christmas<\/a> Cracker\u2019.
